Highly-revered Patriarch of Georgia strongly opposes Constantinople intervention in Ukraine

The Holy Synod of the Georgian Orthodox Church met on Thursday in Tbilisi, chaired by His Holiness Patriarch-Catholicos Ilia II. The Synod addressed several topics, including the demographic crisis in Georgia and the sin of abortion, the nation’s stance towards marijuana, and the ongoing and heated issue surrounding the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

Churches and monasteries have been dedicated to him in Greece and Ukraine, for example, and now a new altar has been recently dedicated in his honor in Romania.

84,000 signatures gathered for revival of Moscow monastery destroyed by communists

The community of the Moscow Strastnoy (Passion) Monastery held a festive prayer meeting at Pushkin Square on Tuesday, and a procession around the historical territory of the Strastnoy Monastery, destroyed by the atheist soviets in 1937.

The event was dedicated to the 360th anniversary of the founding of the holy monastery, for the restoration of which Orthodox activists have gathered more than 84,000 signatures, reports the Synodal Department for Monasteries and Monasticism of the Russian Orthodox Church.

The 595th anniversary of the appearance of one of the most famous miracle-working crosses, the Godenov Cross, was festively celebrated on Monday in the courtyard of the St. John Chrysostom podvoriye in the village of Godenovo, halfway between Moscow and Yaroslavl, of the St. Nicholas Convent in Pereslavl-Zalessky.

A delegation from the Greek Orthodox Church jointed its Russian brothers and sisters in Crimea on Monday, participating in the celebrations in honor of St. Luke of Simferopol, the Blessed Surgeon, who is widely venerated in Greece, reports the site of the Diocese of Crimea.

Fire broke out on Mt. Athos near Hilandar Monastery

A fire broke out yesterday afternoon in a forested area of Mt. Athos near the Serbian Hilandar Monastery, reports Romfea. Ten men in five firetrucks rushed to the scene to begin putting out the fire, and two firefighting aircraft were also being used. According to vimaortodoxias.gr, the fire was in a low-vegetation area near the Kathisma of St. Basil and was quickly brought under control. Several men also went out on foot to put out the small remaining areas of fire.
