Patronal feast celebrated at the Russian Orthodox Church’s Representation in Damascus

On 11 February 2018, Sunday of the Last Judgment and commemoration day of the translation of the relics of the Holy Hieromartyr Ignatius the God-Bearer, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated at the church of the Russian Orthodox Church’s Representation in Damascus, consecrated in honour of this saint, first bishop of Antioch. Officiating at the divine service was Hegumen Arseny (Sokolov), representative of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia to the Patriarch of the Great Antioch and All the East.

On Monday 29th January, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, together with His Eminence Damaskinos Metropolitan of Johannesburg and Pretoria, went to the Greek-English Educational Institute “Saheti”, which is attended by 1300 pupils at all levels, receiving Greek Orthodox Education.

Archbishop Damianos of Mt. Sinai in hospital after accident in monastery

His Eminence Archbishop Damiaos of Sinai, Pharan, and Raitho, and Abbot of St. Catherine’s Monastery has been in the hospital for over a week following an accident inside the monastery on January 29, Romfea reports.

The archbishop fell in an elevator shaft in the monastery from a height of 13 feet. The Egyptian government immediately sent a military helicopter to carry His Eminence to the Al-Galaa military hospital in Cairo, where he is still being treated. The hierarch, who has been archbishop since 1973, is recovering well.

More than 70 Chulym Tatars receive holy Baptism

More than 70 people from the small indigenous Chulym population of Siberia have united themselves to Christ in His Church in holy Baptism in Krasnoyarsk Krai, reports the Diocese of Krasnoyarsk.

The mass Baptism came during a recent missionary trip to the villages of Chindat and Pasechnoe in the Tyukhtetsky District undertaken by Fr. Vitaly Adaemnkov, the rector of St. Nicholas Church in Bogotol and Holy Annunciation Church in the village of Tyukhtet.

Romania’s National Cathedral enters final stage of construction

The consecration ceremony of the century-long desired Romanian People’s Salvation Cathedral is scheduled for the end of November to mark the 100th anniversary of Romania’s 1918 Great Union. We have looked into the next stages of construction that must be completed until the new Patriarchal Cathedral in Bucharest will be consecrated.

‘At present the works are at a very advanced stage of construction with the resistance structure of the Cathedral’s main body being 90% completed,’ engineer Vasile Cracaoanu reported. The patriarchal adviser at the Romanian Patriarchate’s Department of Church Monuments and Buildings said that the concrete frame structure of the main Dome also known as Christ the Pantocratoros or the Ruler of the Universe will reach its 106 m height at the end of July 2018.
