Bulgaria's cabinet allocates more funding for restoration of 9th century Great Basilica in Early Medieval Capital Pliska

Bulgaria’s Cabinet has allocated a total of BGN 770,000 (app. EUR 335,000) to the Ministry of Culture for completing the archaeological restoration of the9th century Great Basilica in the capital of the First Bulgarian Empire (632/680-1018 AD) Pliska.

On Thursday, the 26th of February/10th of March 2016, the President of the Cyprus House of Representatives, Mr Yiannakis Omirou, visited the Patriarchate. He was accompanied by associates of his, namely the General Director of the House, Ms Vasiliki Anastasiadou, the Director of the President’s Office, Mr Antonios Koutalianos, the House’s Director of International Relations, Ms Evi Hadjiyanni, the Consul of Cyprus to Tel Aviv, Mr Michalis Fyrillas, International Relations Officer, Ms Sophie Tsouris, as well as the Ambassador of Cyprus to Israel, Ms Thessalia Shambou, and Ms Louisa Varaklas.

On the afternoon of Monday, the 23rd of February/7th of March 2016, the Romanian President, Mr Klaus Werner Iohannis, accompanied by a group of Romanian government officials, the Romanian Ambassador to Israel, Ms Andreea Păstârnac and his esteemed wife, visited the Patriarchate.

On 9 March 2016, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia officiated at the 16th annual ceremony of awarding the prize of the International Foundation for the Unity of Orthodox Christian Nations (IFUOCN) “For the Outstanding Activity in Strengthening Unity of Orthodox Christian Nations and for Consolidation and Promotion of Christian Values in the Life of Society” named after His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II. The ceremony took place in the Hall of Church Councils of the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour.

Prizes were awarded to His Holiness Patriarch Neofit of Bulgaria; President Tomislav Nikolic of the Republic of Serbia; and Mr. Sergei Naryshkin, chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.

On 9 March 2016, a meeting between His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and Mr. Tomislav Nikolić, President of Serbia, took place at the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow.

The head of Serbia was accompanied by Mr. Ivan Mrkić, Adviser to the President; Mr. Slavenko Terzić, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Serbia to the Russian Federation; and Mrs. Dragica Nikolić, spouse of the President.

Patriarch Kirill praises Serbian President Nikolic's role in preserving relations between two Orthodox Christian nations

Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia met with Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic who has received an award from the Foundation for the Unity of Orthodox Christian Nations.

"Mr. President, I am glad to cordially welcome you on your visit to Moscow. The occasion is a special one: you have been recognized as a laureate of the award for the unity of Orthodox Christian nations," the patriarch said at their meeting on Wednesday.
