Serbian Patriarch received President of Armenia

His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch received Mr. Armen Sarkissian, President of Armenia at the Serbian Patriarchate in Belgrade on 5 October 2019. 

The President of Armenia thanked Serbian Patriarch Irinej for warm audience during which they talked about current problems faced by the Serbian and Armenian people as well as about possibilities how to overcome them. Serbian Patriarch Irinej wished all the best from the Lord to the brotherly Armenian people.

In his interview given to the leading Belgrade newspaper “Politika” of the 29^th September 2019 His Holiness expressed his opinion on the Church – State Relations:

In the past eight centuries, the relationship between the Church and the State has changed significantly. What is the situation today?

Naturally, we have no illusion that the time of harmonious relation – as it was in Byzantium or in Nemanjić’s Serbia – can return. But I also think that we, as the people who carry out responsible duties in the Church and in the State, should always look up to shining examples of Saint Sava and his brother Saint King Stefan the First-Crowned and their manner of thinking, so that we could make decisions that are undoubtedly beneficial to all the citizens, not just the faithful ones.

Steubenville celebrates Parish Feast Day and Choir Anniversary Concert

The Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Church of Steubenville marked their 113th Slava on Sunday September 29th.

The Church also celebrated the 76th anniversary of their choir, Petar Krstich. They welcomed the choir of St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church of Steelton with their priest Fr. Christopher Rocknage and his family, who sang and served for the Slava day celebration. On the eve of the slava day, the two choirs were joined by the choir from St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church of McKeesport directed by Fr. Stevan Rocknage for a concert in honor of the choir anniversary and the church’s slava.

Military Bishop Arsenije with military chaplains

With the blessing of His Grace Bishop Arsenije of Nis, who is in charge of Army chaplains, a  meeting of this newly elected Army Bishop with military chaplains of the Serbian Armed Forces was held in the monasteries of Saint John the Baptist at Poganovo and of the Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God in Sukovo on 28 and 29 September 2019.

Military chaplains participated in the Vigil service officiated by chief military chaplain protopriest Sladjan Vlajic. The next day, on Sunday, His Grace Arsenije of Nis presided over the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy with the concelebration of military chaplains in the monastery of Sukovo.

Church of Saint John the Baptist consecrated in the Zagradje Monastery

Restoration of the Zagradje Monastery, endowment of Stefan Vukcic Kosaca, Herzog of Saint Sava, lasted for more than twenty years.

His Eminence Amfilohije, Archbishop of Cetinje and Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral, and Their Graces Bishops Atanasije of Mileseva, Joanikije of Budimlje-Niksic, Teodosije of Raska-Prizren, Joakim of Polog-Kumanovo, Sergije of Bihac-Petrovac and Dimitrije of Zahumlje-Herzegovina celebrated the Holy archhierarchal Liturgy and consecrated the restored church of Saint John the Baptist of the Zagradje Monastery on September 29^th, 2019.

Church of Saint George consecrated at Sumarice, Kragujevac

A  newly built church of Saint George the Great Martyr was consecrated on Saturday, September 28^th, 2019 at Sumarice, a suburb of Kragujevac.

His Grace Bishop Jovan of Sumadija performed the rite of consecration with the concelebration of great number of priests and monks from many dioceses of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
