I REMARKS OF THE TRADITIONAL CHURCHES AND RELIGIOUS COMMUNITIES ON АNNOUNCED SUPPORTING CHANGES AND AMENDMENTS OF THE LAW ON (RESTITUTION) ON RETURN OF THE PROPERTY OF CHURCHES AND RELIGIOUS COMMUNITIES

1. The aim of the Government of the RS is that in announced accompanying changes and amendments on the return of the church property, in fact,  reduce the level of human rights of churches and religious communities, and that, in this unconstitutional manner, ostensibly,  provide the former owners the right to equal legal protection. Instead to provide the former owners secure the right to equal protection of the restitution, through accepting the same scope of property rights by the law recognized to churches and religious communities , the Government of the RS hereby reduces achieved level of property rights to churches and religious communities, which is a direct violation of the provisions of Article 20 par. 2 of the Constitution of the RS.

Saturday evening found approximately two dozen parishioners in attendance for Vespers. The highlight of the evening was the Blessing of the Five Loaves of Bread by our beloved Bishop Maxim. As the prayers of Thanks and Praise were intoned, a quiet hush overcame all in attendance. As Vladika anointed each person with holy oil and gave them a piece of the blessed bread, each person present gathered by the North door in silent acknowledgment that we had been touched by the Holy Spirit during the service. Each person seemed to find it difficult to leave Church! We all silently acknowledged that we were in a place of utter inner peace. After the last person venerated the cross and received the bread, both Fr. Dane Popovic and Fr. William Weir began hearing Confessions. It was now time to prepare our inner selves for Divine Liturgy for the next day.

With a blessing of His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, his Vicar Bishop Atanasije of Hvosno served the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy in the St. Sava Memorial Cathedral on Vracar, with the concelebration of six priests and three deacons. A thankful public prayer meeting was served on the ocasion of the end of the schooling of cadets of 131th and 132nd class of the Military Academy and the invocation of the Holy Spirit for the beginning of a new school year in the Military high school. This is a traditional event which takes place on the beginning of September, and which is the result of a very successful cooperation realized by the Committee for religious education of the Archbishopric of Belgrade-Karlovac and the military educational institution which are located on the territory of the jurisdiction of the Arcbishopric.
