What can be the relation between a poor Greek Orthodox Christian nun and the Iron lady of India? It seems to be a very interesting story. Many Orthodox faithful, particularly in India, remain unaware about this incident. Gerontissa Gavrielia (Elder Gravilea)was a Greek Orthodox nun who spend several years in India taking care of the poor and sick.

Pan-Orthodox Music Symposium Announced for June 2016

Minneapolis, MN – The International Society for Orthodox Church Music (www.isocm.com) will host a pan-Orthodox music symposium at St Mary’s Orthodox Cathedral from Wednesday, June 22 through Sunday, June 26, 2016. The event will include presentations and workshops, music reading sessions, rehearsals, and will culminate in a festive hierarchical All-Night Vigil and Divine Liturgy.  The event will also feature a special concert by the critically-acclaimed vocal ensemble Cappella Romana.

According to Archpriest Ivan Moody, ISOCM’s board chairman, the aim of this symposium is to bring together people involved in all aspects of music-making in the Orthodox Church - chanters, choir singers, composers, conductors and musicologists. Father Ivan said, “An event like this reinforces the idea that we can all learn from each other and together enrich the worship of the Church.”

Mortal Kombat’s Shang Tsung Goes Orthodox in Russia

The soul of Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, best known for the part of evil sorcerer Shang Tsung in the Mortal Kombat movies, has been captured by Russia – he has apparently decided to be baptized into the Orthodox Church.

Tagawa, an American actor of Japanese descent, who took part in a new Russian film called The Priest-San, decided to abandon his faith and become a true follower of Jesus Christ’s orthodox teachings, Interfax reports.

OCP Publications, the publications division of Orthodoxy Cognate PAGE is getting ready for one of our biggest Pan-Orthodox Christian book release said Varghese John (Director- Dept. of Publications).The book is written by George Alexander ( Secretary of Orthodoxy Cognate PAGE) and will feature personal reflections on global Pan-Orthodox Christian Unity. The entire work focuses on the need for establishing sacramental communion between Eastern and Oriental Orthodox families of Churches. The author calls for creating a common platform for Orthodox Churches and to establish dialogues between Easter, Oriental, Old Believes, Old Calendar, Non-canonical, Unrecognized and New Generation Orthodox Churches. This will be the third book from the house of OCP.
