Holy Transfiguration of the Lord at Cer

His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch served the Holy Liturgy in the church dedicated to Saint John of Shanghai, and in the memory of the warriors of the Battle of Cer hundred years ago. 

In early morning hours a great number of believers from all directions were going to the Cer mountain in order to celebrate a great feast day of the Lord - the Transfiguration,  with the solemn Liturgy. The faithful welcomed the Patriarch, who came accompanied by Bishop Lavrentije of Sabac. 

The bells of the Memorial church at the peak of the Cer mountain sounded the beginning of the Holy Liturgy at 8 a.m.. Serbian Patriarch and Bishop Lavrentije of Sabac officiated the Liturgy with the concelebration of the clergy of the Diocese of Sabac and the Archbishopric of Belgrade-Karlovac. 

During the Liturgy a litany for the dead was said for the Serbian military leaders and the soldiers who gave their lives for the Homeland and the Orthodox faith. 

Following the Holy Liturgy the Patriarch performed the blessing of the grapes.
