Zagreb: Towards the great jubilee

The Metropolitanate of Zagreb-Ljubljana organized on 4 October 2012 the formal celebration of the 1700th anniversary of the Edict of Milan.

The celebration began with the Divine Liturgy in the chapel of Saint Sava, the first Serbian archbishop and enlightener, at the Serbian Orthodox Grammar School and the Spiritual Centre on Sveti Duh in Zagreb. His Grace Bishop Ignjatije of Branicevo celebrated the Holy Liturgy, who is in three-day visit to the Metropolitanate of Zagreb-Ljubljana. The Bishop was concelebrated by host His Eminence Metropolitan Jovan of Zagreb-Ljubljana and Their Graces Bishops Lukijan of Osek-Polje and Sava of Slavonia and local priests.

The faithful of the parish of  Zagreb and the pupils of the Grammar School attended the Liturgy.

The celebration was continued at the formal hall of the Spiritual centre. Along with the priesthood and the faithful who participated in the Liturgy, in this part of the programme there were also: His Grace Bishop Vasilije of Srem, representatives of the religious communities in the Republic of Croatia and the city of Zagreb, as well as friends of the Metropolitanate of Zagreb-Ljubljana.

A few lecturers hold interesting lecturers: Professor Dr. Jure Zecevic, the vice head of the Department for Ecumenical Theology at the Faculty of Catholic Theology of the University of Zagreb; Bishop Dr Ignjatije (Midic), Professor of Dogmatics at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology of the University of Belgrade; Metropolitan Jovan; Bishop Vasilije, the member of the Holy Synod of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church.

After the lectures at the dining room of the Spiritual centre, the Metropolitan organized a lunch for all the participants of this celebration, and Archbishop Alessandro D’Erico, the Apostolic Nuncio in the Republic of Croatia, also joined the lunch.

On the second day of its stay in Zagreb, 5 October 2012, His Grace Bishop Ignjatije along with his host, Metropolitan Jovan visited the chapel of Holy Apostles Peter and Paul at Zagreb’s cemetery of Mirogoj, as well as the arcades of the famous Serbs who were very significant for the creation of the church community in Zagreb and beyond.
