Orthodox Believers Invest in Russia-Themed Hollywood Movies

Russian Orthodox philanthropists are set to finance a wide range of Russian-themed Hollywood films, Izvestia reported Wednesday.

Among the first of these films may be a Hollywood adaptation about Tamerlane the Great, a Turko-Mongol conqueror.

Andrei Poklonsky, chairman of the “Russian Club of Orthodox Philanthropists,” said in comments to Izvestia that work on the film’s script was already underway by Hollywood screenwriters.

On the occasion of prayerful and commemorative festivities which lasted until 23 January 2013 in Novi Sad and that marked, on the highest state and church level, the seventieth anniversary of Novi Sad Raid which the Hungarian occupiers performed in January 1942, the Television production of the Diocese of Backa, with the blessing of His Grace Bishop Dr Irinej of Backa put on the You Tube website a documentary called “The Children of Immortality”.

At the celebration held on 7 December in the Great hall of the church of Christ the Saviour in Moscow, organized on the occasion of the completion of the work of this year's Pan-Slavic Art Forum "Golden Knight", His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, the president of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, on behalf of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, awarded the Serbian film director, screenwriter and film producer Jovan Markovic with the Order of St. Sergius of Radonezh. 

Serbian cinema festival in Moscow

Serbian Minister of Culture Predrag Marković opened a Serbian cinema festival in Moscow. DAYS OF SERBIAN CINEMA last from November 23 to November 30 and include eight Serbian films. The 54th International Biennial in Venice ended on November 27. Serbia was represented by artist Dragoljub Raša Todosijević, with a project entitled THE LIGHT AND DARK OF SYMBOLS, which won a special award. The theatre production WHEN FATHER WAS AWAY ON BUSINESS, staged by Oliver Frljic after a screenplay by Abdulah Sidran and performed by Belgrade theatre Atelje 212, was proclaimed best at the 28th Festival of Theatres in Brcko, Bosnia-Herzegovina.
