The authorities are not bringing Archbishop Jovan to trial for more than three months!

On March 12, 2013, one year and three months are concluded since Archbishop Jovan of Ohrid and Metropolitan of Skopje is found in detention!

The last court hearing in the latest staged court process on religious grounds against the Archbishop, the Bishops, monastics and faithful people of the Orthodox Ohrid Archbishopric was held on December 11, 2012.

Despite the recommendations by the European Union for not prolonging the court proceedings, this process has been persistently delayed; namely, it was first scheduled for January 16, 2013, but it was cancelled! Then, also the hearing scheduled for February 20, 2013 was cancelled. Archbishop Jovan is in detention, the Bishops, monastics and the faithful people are regularly reporting to the court, hence they are not the reason for the delaying of the court process!

Enthronement of the Ethiopian Patriarch


Newly-elected Patriarch of the Ethiopian (Non-Chalcedonian) Orthodox Church Mathias was solemnly enthroned at Holy Trinity Cathedral in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, on Sunday, 3 March 2013.

Church hierarchs and representatives from around the world had attended the enthronement ceremony: on behalf of the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew His Eminence Archbishop Gregory of Thyateira and Great Britain along with Professor Andreas Ioannu; on behalf of His Beatitude Patriarch Theodor of Alexandria and All Africa His Eminence Metropolitan Peter of Axum accompanied by father Chrysostom.

Celebration of the Military Medical Academy's Day

The 169th anniversary of the Military Medical Academy was marked on 1 March 2013 with a solemn ceremony at the AF Guard Club. The jubilee’s celebration attended: His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch; Tomislav Nikolic, President of the Republic of Serbia; Aleksandar Vucic, First Deputy Prime Minister of the Government and Minister of Defense; General Ljubisa Dikovic, chief of the Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces and many guests.

At Hilandar the feast day of Saint Simeon the Myrrh-Gusher was solemnly celebrated at Hilandar coincides with marking the nine centuries of his birth. Along with the feast of The Entry of the Most Holy Theotokos into the Temple, Saint Sava and icon of the Three-Handed Theotokos, the feast of Saint Simeon is the part of four slavas (Patron Saint-days) which the Hilandar brotherhood celebrates.

New Ethiopian Patriarch elected

Archbishop Abune Mathias of Jerusalem elected 28 February 2013 as the sixth Patriarch of the Ethiopian Church, six months after the death of the previous Patriarch Abune Paulos.

On Sunday, 3 March 2013 Abune Mathias will be enthroned in Adis Abeba, the capital of Ethiopia.  The new head of this Church served as Archbishop of the diocese of Jerusalem and lived abroad for more than 30 years.

President Tomislav Nikolic and Serbian Patriarch Irinej agree that it is necessary to achieve unity оf local public in solving all issues of the national interest. Prime Minister Ivica Dacic also attended the meeting.

Mr. Tomislav Nikolic, President of the Republic of Serbia, and Mr. Ivica Dacic, Prime Minister, talked today with His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch.  Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro and the Littoral, Bishop Irinej of Backa, Bishop Teodosije of Raska-Prizren and protopresbyter-stavrophor Savo Jovic, chief secretary of the Holy Synod of Bishops attended the meeting at the Palace Serbia.
