Church philanthropy was born of the Gospel and Liturgy, Patriarch Daniel says

“The charitable work of the Church was born of the Gospel and the Divine Liturgy. The care for the poor in the form of permanent social institutions was inspired by today’s Gospel,” said the Patriarch of Romania in his homily delivered at St. George’s Chapel of the Patriarchal residence on Sunday.

Referring to the Gospel passage in which the miracle of the multiplication of the loaves and fishes is presented, Patriarch Daniel explained that the care for the poor and hungry was commanded by the Saviour Jesus Christ in the words to the disciples: “Give them something to eat.”

Patron Saint-day of Prophet Elijah church in Mirijevo

His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch officiated the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy in the church of Holy Prophet Elijah in Mirijevo, Belgrade, on 2 August, 2020.

The Patriarch was concelebrated by the local clergy. The service was attended prayerfully by Director of the Office for Cooperation with Churches and Religious Communities Dr. Mileta Radojevic and Principal of the Seventh Belgrade Secondary School Mr. Miroslav Markicevic.

Academician Dimitrije Stefanovic reposed in the Lord in Belgrade

Academician Dimitrije Stefanovic reposed in the Lord in Belgrade On August 1st, 2020.

Dimitrije Stefanović, a musicologist and conductor, long-term expert and connoisseur of Orthodox church music, was born in Pančevo on 25 November 1929. He graduated at the Faculty of Philosophy in Bel- grade (the Department of English and German) in 1955 and at the Music Academy in Belgrade (the Department of History of Music) in 1956. He obtained his B. Litt. and Ph.D. at Oxford University. During postgraduate studies, he worked with famous musicologists-Byzantinists Egon Wellesz, Henry Tillyard and Oliver Strunk. At the Music Faculty of Oxford University, he lectured on Byzantine and old Slavonic music. As a lecturer and participant at numerous international gatherings and congresses, he was a guest at many universities in Europe and America. He gave a large number of lectures on Orthodox and especially Serbian church music, hundreds of popular lectures for different audiences in the country and abroad: at twenty Yugoslav-German choir weeks (1971–1991), nineteen Summer Spiritual Academies in the monastery of Studenica, as well as at many Summer Schools of Church Chant ‘In Memory of Kornelije Stanković’.

Bishop Arsenije consecrated the laboratory "Fiery Eye"

His Grace Bishop Arsenije of Nis Arsenije performed the rite of blessing of premises of the newly built laboratory "Fiery Eye", which will process tests for the Covid 19 virus. The event took place in the city of Nish on July 29, 2020.

The laboratory was built next to the Institute of Public Health in Nis. Such a laboratory already exists in Belgrade and is a donation from the Chinese Institute. The capacity of tests at the daily level of the Nis laboratory should be 1,000 tests.

Livno: Livno New Martyrs prayerfully celebrated

The Holy Liturgy was celebrated on the occasion of the feast of the Holy Great Martyr Marina and of the memory of the martyrdom of innocent Serbs - old men, women and children and thrown by the Ustashes into a deep pit of Ravni Dolac. The worship took place in the chapel-memorial ossuary dedicated to the Holy New Martyrs of Livno on July 30, 2020.
