Renewed Continuation of Illegal Construction work on Decani-Plav Highway within Visoki Dečani Monastery's Special Protective Zone

Despite Kosovo’s Law on Special Protective Zones explicitly forbidding building highways and transit roads through Special Protective Zones, the unambiguous stance of the Law’s Implementation Council, and the position of international representatives in Kosovo that the construction of a Dečani-Plav highway through the Monastery’s Protective Zone constitutes an illegal act, the local Kosovar authorities in Dečani, together with the support of the authorities in Priština, have once again begun intensive construction work on the road WITHIN the Monastery’s Protective Zone.

The Dormition Fast

The Dormition fast was established as preceding the great feasts of the Transfiguration of the Lord and of the Dormition of the Mother of God. It lasts two weeks—from August 1/14–August 14/27 (old style/new style).

The Dormition fast comes down to us from the early days of Christianity. We find a clear reference to the Dormition fast in a conversation of Leo the Great from around the year 450 A.D. “The Church fasts are situated in the year in such a way that a special abstinence is prescribed for each time. Thus, for spring there is the spring fast ]—the Forty Days[Great Lent; for summer there is the summer fast… [the Apostles’ fast]; for autumn there is the autumn fast, in the seventh month [Dormition fast]; for winter there is the winter fast [Nativity fast].”

Bishop Ilarion of Timok – sixth anniversary of Diocesan ministry

Six years of dedicated and fruitful archpastoral ministry of the Bishop of Timok Ilarion (Golubovic).

The tenth day of August, of the year of the Lord 2014, is written in golden letters in the history of the God-protected Diocese of Timok. On that day, when the Holy Church celebrates prayerful remembrance of the Holy Glorious and All-Praiseworthy Apostles and Deacons Prohor, Nicanor, Timon and Parmen, the decision of the Holy Assembly of Bishops was implemented in May of the same year, when Very Venerable Archimandrite Ilarion (Golubović), abbot of the sacred St. Nicholas monastery of the Bukovo monastery, was consecrated as Bishop.
