COMMUNIQUE OF THE HOLY ASSEMBLY OF BISHOPS OF THE SERBIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH ON KOSOVO AND METOHIJA

Gathered at the autumn meeting of the Holy Assembly of Bishops, we the Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church headed by His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Irinej, in these difficult times which our Church and the faithful are facing in Kosovo and Metohija, first of all express our support to His Grace Bishop Teodosije of Raška-Prizren, his clergy, monastics and the faithful people of the Diocese of Raška-Prizren in their efforts to persist and remain in Kosovo and Metohija, the heartland of the Serbian Orthodox spirituality and our identity.

40 Years of the Church of Saint Thomas in Johannesburg

His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, celebrated the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy in the church of Saint Thomas in Johannesburg on 4 November 2018, on the occasion of the celebration of the 40^th anniversary of recently only Serbian church in Africa.

The Serbian Patriarch was concelebrated by Archbishop Damascene of Pretoria and Johannesburg (Patriarchate of Alexandria), His Grace Bishop Jovan of Sumadija, hieromonk Dositej of Chilandar, hieromonk Dr. Amvrosije (Vesic), protopresbyter-staurophor Dragi Veskovac, and some priests from the Russian and Romanian Orthodox Churches. In a prayerful presence of the host principal of the church, Isajlo (Markovic), many faithful people and the church choir enhanced  the great jubilee of the parish of Saint Thomas the Apostle.

The evening began with chanting of troparion to Saint Nicholas, the heavenly protector of the Cathedral church, which was performed by the Childrens’ choir of the Cathedral church, Slatkopojci, followed by the Mixed choir of the Cathedral church Saint Arsenije of Srem that  performed Oh, Mother of God, the Virgin, a prayer in honour of the Most Holy Mother of God, who has been performing miracles and still performs them through its miraculous icon in the Cathedral church.

Crosses for the Cathedral church of the  Holy Trinity in Mostar , Hercegovina,were consecrated during the Eucharistic gathering, when Bishop Dimitrije of Zahumlje-Herzegovina and the Littoral officiated with the concelebration of Bishop Grigorije of Frankfurt and All Germany, retired Bishop Atanasije of Zahumlje-Herzegovina and the Littoral, many priests and people of God.

Serbian Patriarch visits Metropolitan Damascene in Pretoria

His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch visited Pretoria, one of the three capital cities of the South African Republic, where he was welcomed His Eminence Metropolitan Damascene of Johannesburg and Pretoria from the Patriarchate of Alexandria.

“United Against Hate” - Religious Leaders in Solidarity with Pittsburgh

His Grace Bishop Irinej of Eastern America, joined His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, and His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon of the Orthodox Church in America, among other Orthodox hierarchs and clergy, together with other distinguished religious leaders in the Park East Synagogue, in a memorial event titled “United Against Hate,” an inter-religious gathering of Leaders in solidarity with Pittsburgh and the victims of the massacre at the Tree of Life Synagogue.
