Sunday of Orthodoxy in Jackson

Saint Sava Church in Jackson, California, was blessed on the eve of the Sunday of Orthodoxy in the year of the Lord 2018^th with new lights for its wall paintings.

This event coincided with the arrival of Mr. MilojeMilinković, iconographer. In the afternoon hours the church was packed with people eager to ask the iconographer various questions regarding his sacred artwork. Majority of those people were not members of the parish, but they had a great respect and interest in our church art.

Serbian Orthodox Church will always respect their true friends

On 14 February this year Bishop Teodosije bestowed upon the Italian Army Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Danilo Errico the highest award of the Serbian Orthodox Church - The Medal of the Holy Emperor Constantine (the first Christian Roman Emperor who was born on the territory of today's Serbia).

General Errico as the former KFOR Commander has demonstrated the most sincere respect to the Serbian Orthodox Church and the Serbian people and has given a profound contribution to the reconstruction of our vandalized monasteries, the protection of Peć Patriarchate and Dečani Monastery and has acted as a trusted witness of truth on the post-war suffering of our people in Kosovo and Metohija. Lieutenant General Danilo Errico was honored by the decision of the the Serbian Patriarch Iriney on 23 January upon initiative of Bishop of Raška-Prizren Teodosije.

Mosaic in the dome of Saint Sava Cathedral showcased: One more token of the brotherhood of the Serbian and Russian peoples

His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, attended the solemn presentation of the mosaic in the dome of the Saint Sava Cathedral in Belgrade’s district of Vracar on 22 February 2018.

Besides His Holiness, the celebration in the Memorial Cathedral of the Serbian people was attended by President of the Republic of Serbia Mr. Aleksandar Vucic, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Mr. Sergey Lavrov, President of the Republic of Srpska Mr. Milorad Dodik, President of the Department of the External Church Relations of the Russian Orthodox Church Metropolitan Ilarion of Volokolamsk, members of the Holy Synod of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church, ministers in the Government of the Republic of Serbia, as well as by representatives of the company Gasprom Nyeft which helped the creation and installation of the monumental mosaic in the dome of the Saint Sava Cathedral.

Synodikon of Orthodoxy

The text of the Synodikon of Orthodoxy has been much altered over the centuries, chiefly by the addition of material and names that postdate the Restoration of the Icons in 843. This is the case with the text that is printed in the current Triodia. Some of the more zealous contemporary Orthodox even include condemnations of such things as the ‘pan-heresy of Ecumenism‘. It is probably impossible to reconstruct the original text exactly. However the British Library possesses a manuscript, (BL. Additional 28816) written in 1110 or 1111 by a monk Andrew of the monastery of Oleni in Moraea, which may give some idea of the scope and contents of the original. In the opinion of Jean Gouillard, the editor of the critical edition of the Synodikon, ‘the London manuscript is certainly one of the best witnesses to the primitive and purely Constantinopolitan form of the Synodikon’. The manuscript was unknown to him when he prepared his edition and has in consequence been generally neglected.

Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk arrived in Belgrade

His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, President of the Department for External Church Relations of the Russian Orthodox Church, arrived to Belgrade in the evening of the 22^nd February 2018.

The dignitary of the Moscow Patriarchate will participate in a formal presentation of the mosaic painting in the central dome of the Saint Sava Cathedral on Thursday, 22 February 2018.

His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion, who was accompanied by protopresbyter Igor Jakimchuk, Secretary of the Department for External Church Relations of the Russian Orthodox Church (DECR), and hypodeacon Aleksandar Yershov, an associate of this Department, was welcomed at the Belgrade airport by His Grace Bishop Irinej of Backa accompanied by protopresbyter Vitaly Tarasyev, Principal of the Representation of the Moscow Patriarchate in Belgrade, Archimandrite Stefan (Saric), Deputy Principal of the Saint Sava Cathedral, and Deacon Aleksandar Prascevic, General Secretary of the Office of the Serbian Patriarch.
