Remembrance Day on Victims of the “Storm” Military Action Marked

The state manifestation dedicated to marking the Remembrance Day of the killed and expelled Serbs in the Croatian military-police action “Storm” in August 1995, when 2000 Serbs were killed and more than 200.000 expelled, was held at Veternik near Novi Sad, Serbia,  on 4 August 2017.

Serbian Patriarch Irinej served the memorial service in the presence of President of Serbia AleksandarVucic, President of Republic of Srpska Milorad Dodik, Prime Minister of Serbia Ana Brnabic,  Diocesan Bishop Irinej of Backa, Government ministers as well as by expelled Serbs, members of the families of the murdered in the “Storm” and of some 30.000 citizens.

Remembrance Day of the killed and expelled Serbs

On the occasion of The Remembrance Day of the killed and expelled Serbs in the military action “Storm” in Croatia 1995, in all churches of the Serbian Orthodox Church the memorial service for the victims will be served on July 5th, 2017 beginning at 11 am. The same day bells of all churches and monasteries of the Serbian Orthodox Church will rang at 12 am.

Wednesday 26 June 2017, His Grace Bishop Irinej of Eastern America made his first canonical visit to Monastery New Marcha and its church dedicated to the Archangel Gabriel for the celebration of the Monastery’s Slava.

The previous evening Vespers were served by Archimandrite Leontije (Alavanja), Abbot of St. Mark Serbian Orthodox Monastery in Sheffield, OH. Monastery New Marcha was blessed to have in attendance for the Vespers Mother Christophora, Abbess of Holy Transfiguration Monastery in Ellwood City, PA (OCA-Romanian) and several sisters from her monastery.  A light meal was served after Vespers.

The festivity began with a Vigil and a solemn academy. Promotion of a monograph  “Lavrentije – the feast day of silent light”. The exhibition about life and works of the celebrant.

The bells of the Cathedral church in Sabac on 29 July 2017 marked exactly at 17.30 arrival of His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch. The First Hierarch of the Serbian Church arrived at the Cathedral church of the Diocese of Sabac followed by the host, Bishops Lavrentije of Sabac and  Milutin of Valjevo, Director of the Office for Cooperation with Churches and Religious Communities Mileta Radojevic, PhD; Bishop’s deputy protopresbyter-stavrophor Mirko Vilotic, Director of the Administration Office of the Serbian Patriarchate protopresbyter-staurophor StojadinPavlovic and many other ecclesial and secular personalities.

His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch was welcomed in front of the church of Holy Trinity in Banjaluka by His Grace Bishop Jefrem of Banjaluka with hierarchs, clergy and the faithful in the afternoon on 24 July 2017.

Then the solemn rite of doxology followed, which was attended by His Eminence Metropolitan Porfirije of Zagreb-Ljubljana and Their Graces Bishops Atanasije of Bihac-Petrovac and Sergije of Frankfurt and All Germany, as well as Mileta Radojevic, PhD, Director of the Bureau for Cooperation with Churches and Religious Communities of the Republic of Serbia.

Serbian Patriarch concluded his Patriarchal visitation to the USA

His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, returned from the USA where he had presided over the prayerful celebrations in the Diocese of New Gracanica-Midwestern America on the occasion of the glorification of new-shown Saint Mardarije of Libertyville and All-America on 24 July 2017.

On behalf of the Holy Synod of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church, His Holiness was welcomed at the airport Nikola Tesla by His Grace Bishop Milutin of Valjevo, member of the Holy Synod. The Patriarch was also greeted by His Grace Arsenije, Vicar Bishop of Toplica and elected Bishop of Nis, with clergy at the main entrance to the Patriarchate Palace.
