Holy Great-Martyr Prince Lazarus of Serbia

Lazar was one of the Serbian noblemen who ruled the Serbian Empire after the death of Tsar Dushan. After the death of Tsar Urosh, Patriarch Ephrem crowned Lazar as the Serbian king. Lazar sent a delegation to Constantinople with the monk Isaiah to implore the patriarch to  remove the anathema from the Serbian people. He fought against the Turkish powers on several occasions. Finally, he fought on the Field of Blackbirds (Kosovo Polje) on June 15, 1389 A.D. against the Turkish Emperor Murad I where he was beheaded. His body was translated and interred in Ravanica, his memorial church near Cuprija and later was translated to Ravanica in Srem and from there, during the Second World War (1942) was translated to Belgrade and placed in the Cathedral Church of the Holy Archangel Michael where it rests today incorrupt and extends comfort and healing to all those who turn to him with prayer.

Patriarch in Waterloo

His Holiness Serbian Patriarch visited the Serbian community and St. George Church-school congregation in Waterloo on Monday, June 22, 2015.

Accompanying the Serbian Patriarch was Bishop of Eastern America, His Grace Mitrophan, as well as V. Rev. Stavrophor Vasilije Tomic, Episcopal Deputy and Protodeacon Damjan Bozic.

Serbian Patriarch in Kitchener

On Monday, June 22, 2015 His Holiness Serbian Patriarch and administrator of the Diocese of Canada met with the Toronto clergy and surrounding areas.

Accompanying the Serbian Patriarch was Bishop Mitrophan of Eastern America, as well as V. Rev. Vasilje Tomic, Episcopal Deputy, and Protodeacon Damjan Bozic. The meeting was held at the Holy Trinity Serbian Church in Kitchener. The meeting was conducted in a spirit of unity and love mutual respect.

Patriarch Irinej at Saint Nicholas Cathedral in Hamilton

The Serbian Patriarch, His Holiness Irinej, administrator of the Diocese of Canada visited on Sunday, June 21 the St. Nicholas Cathedral in Hamilton.

There are two church-school congregations in this city and three parishes. This church, on Nash Street and dedicated to St. Nicholas is proclaimed a cathedral church. Bishop Georgije was enthroned in this church as bishop of Canada on the Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos in 1984.

Nine Hundred Welcomed Patriarch in Hamilton

His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Irinej, administrator of the Diocese of Canada, visited St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church in Hamilton on Barton Street.

St. Nicholas Church is the spiritual nucleus of the oldest Serbian Orthodox parish in east Canada. Serbs began to settle in Hamilton already in 1904. At the initiative of a group of Serbs, mostly from the former Austro-Hungarian empire, a parish was formed in 1913. The parish was founded under the auspices of the Russian Orthodox Church, but it came under the jurisdiction of the Serbian Orthodox Church in 1920.
