Under the auspeces of the Orthodox Diocese of Zahumlje-Herzegovina and the Littoral, the second annual Symposion „Theology in Public Life” was held in Trebinje on February 6-7.

This significant conference was opened by welcome speeches of His Grace Bishop Grigorije of Zahumlje-Herzegovina, Roman Catholic Bishop of Dubrovnik Monsignor Mate Uzinic and Mr. Andrej Jeftic, Lecturer at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology in Belgrade. Participants of the Symposion, that has become traditional, were eminent theologians from the region, as well as historians, philosophers, literary theorists, economists, artists, actors and film directors, etc. During four panel discussions they exchanged views on the Ukrainian crisis, Christianity and economic justice in (neo)liberal capitalism, relations between Christianity and literature, as well as connections between film and Liturgy. Within the conference, a promotion of a collection of presentations held at the first Symposion was organized in the Museum of Herzegovina.

Archbishop Jovan of Ohrid arrives in Russia

 On February 8, 2015, with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, Archbishop Jovan (Vraniskovski) of Ohrid arrived in Russia for medical treatment. 

At Sheremetjevo airport, Archbishop Jovan was met by Archpriest Nikolay Balashov, vice-chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s department for external church relations, and A. Khoshev, DECR secretariat for inter-Orthodox relations.

At  Hofburg Palace the solemn reception was prepared in honour of the high state visit of President of the Government of the Republic of Serbia Mr. Aleksandar Vucic on Thursday, 29 January 2015, at 7 p.m.


The host of the reception was Foreign Affairs Minister of the Republic of Austria Mr. Sebastian Kurz. His Grace Bishop Andrej of Austria-Switzerland, along with the clergy of the city of Vienna, also participated in the reception. Among attendes there were also: a lot of famous people from the public, cultural and political life of the Republic of Austria and the Republic of Serbia, representatives of the diplomatic corps, eminent public representatives of the Serbian diaspora in Austria and other high guests.

Archbishop Jovan (Vraniskovsky) of Ohrid released from prison

On February 2, 2015, in compliance with the ruling of the Skopje Court, Archbishop Jovan (Vraniskovsky) of Ohrid, a hierarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church, was released from the Idrizovo prison.

This year's celebration of Saint Sava in Zagreb began with the Holy Liturgy in the chapel of Saint Sava, at the Serbian Orthodox Grammar School Kantakuzina Katarina Brankovic, which was officiated by His Eminence Metropolitan Dr. Porfirije of Zagreb-Ljubljana. 

The Metropolitan was concelebrated by Archimandrite Danilo, hierodeacon Venjamin, hieromonk Nikon, protopresbyter-stavrophor Slobodan Lalic and deacon Branimir Jokic. Then the Metropolitan blessed the slava cake and held a sermon regarding the feast day of Saint Sava.

On Sunday, January 25, His Grace Bishop Dr Maxim visited the St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church in Phoenix, Arizona, for their Patron Saint Day Celebration. 

On this beautiful, sunny Arizona day Divine Liturgy was celebrated by His Grace along with V. Rev. Lazar Vasiljevic, V. Rev. Stanislav Djuric, Rev. Deacon Zoran Aleksic and host priest V. Rev. Dragomir Tuba, with a great number of faithful people present.  His Grace tonsured Michael Devic and Jovan Tuba to the rank of a Reader.
