Patriarch Porfirije: Only in communion we can have primordial joy and peace

- Maybe sometimes God offers a temptation to all of us so that through material damage we would have the opportunity to awaken in ourselves what is human and to make an effort to overcome each of our narrowness, egoism, closedness and to meet the other, Serbian Patriarch Porfirije said on his first pastoral visit to Banija.

For his first pastoral visit the new elected Serbian Patriarch Porfirije chosed Banija. One 27 February 2021, one week after he became the head of the Serbian Orthodox Church former Metropolitan of Zagreb-Ljubljana, in an organization of the Metropolitanate of Zagreb-Ljubljana and the Serbian National Council visited the area that was destroyed in a devastating earthquake a few months ago. 

Bishop Teodosije: Support for the initiative of the President of Serbia to help the survival of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija

On the occasion of yesterday's statement of the President of Serbia, Mr. Aleksandar Vucic, at the meeting with the political representatives of our people in Kosovo and Metohija in Kursumlija, the Diocese of Raska and Prizren wholeheartedly welcomes the initiative of the President and the announcement that the state of Serbia will take additional steps to encourage our people to survive and stay on their centuries-old homes.

It is especially important that all citizens living in Kosovo and Metohija will receive financial assistance, the unemployed 200 euros per person, and the employed and each child 100 euros. This financial assistance from the state will significantly contribute to the economic recovery of our people, which is additionally endangered due to the recent floods and the coronavirus pandemic.

Patriarch Porfirije: Death - the only unnatural thing in our existence

His Holiness Porfirije, Serbian Patriarch served a funeral service for Milivoje Srbljan, a long-term important member of the Choir of the Cathedral church of the Transfiguration of the Lord on February 26, 2021.

The late Milivoje,  who, after a long and severe illness, fell asleep in the Lord on February 23, was, for more than thirty years, one of the most active members of the Choir of the Church of the Transfiguration in Zagreb. Along with Milivoj, the backbone of the choir all those years, there were also his three children: Snjezana, Aleksandar and Ivana. The eldest daughter, Ivana Srbljan, a soloist at the Rijeka Opera, has been the conductor of this singing society for many years, with a tradition of more than 140 years.

Patriarch Porfirije at the Orthodox Grammar School in Zagreb

His Holiness Porfirije, Serbian Patriarch, the administrator of the Diocese of Zagreb-Ljubljana, visited the Serbian Orthodox Grammar School Kantakuzina Katarina Brankovic in Zagreb on February 26, 2021.

The patriarch visited the grammar school on the seventh day since he was enthroned on the throne of the Belgrade-Karlovci metropolitans and Serbian patriarchs in Belgrade on February 19. On behalf of the school, protopresbyter-staurophor Slobodan Lalic, principal of the Grammar school, congratulated Patriarch Porfirije on his election as the new Primate of the Serbian Orthodox Church.

Patron Saint-day of the church of Saint Symeon the Myrrh-Gusher in New Belgrade

The  feast day of Saint Symeon the Myrrh-Gusher, the progenitor of the holy lineage of the Nemanjics was solemnly celebrated in a magnificent church devoted to him in the New Belgrade district, in Belgrade.

On the feast day, on the eleventh year since the first service was held, in the fulfilled church of Saint Symeon the Myrrh-Streaming, with the blessing of His Holiness Porfirije, Serbian Patriarch, His Grace Bishop Stefan of Remesiana, Vicar of the Patriarch,  officiated the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy.

Founder's Patron Saint-day of Chilandar Monastery: Thanksgiving on the occasion of the election of Patriarch Porfirije

In the Holy Imperial Serbian Laura, Chilandar, its founder, the Venerable Symeon the Myrrh-Streaming, was celebrated with a solemn holiday service.

The Council of Elders of the Holy Monastery of Chilandar has made a decision that on the day of the feast of the Venerable Symeon, at the end of the Holy Liturgy, a prayer act of thanksgiving will be served on the occasion of the election of His Holiness Porfirije, Serbian Patriarch. In this way, the Chilandar brotherhood, although outside the homeland and in difficult conditions of isolation, spiritually and prayerfully participates in the life of the believing Serbian people, thanking God for electing Patriarch Porfirije, a worthy heir of Patriarch Irinej of blessed repose on the Saint Sava’s throne of the Serbian Church.
