Patriarch Kirill marks a positive role of crisis

Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia said that the global economic crisis will do its bit for spiritual improvement of people, despite its adverse effects.

"Not only is the crisis our plague, it is also our blessing. It gives us a good opportunity for soul-searching and makes us think. Following our well-trodden ways, we get used to our bread-and-butter sandwich, but when this sandwich is taken from our mouths, this means a challenge and an impulse," Patriarch Kirill said Sunday at a press conference in Kaliningrad.

It is an exceptional honor and a great joy for me to be here today, among you, with the blessing and permission of His All Holiness the Ecumenical Patriarch and the consent of His Eminence the Archbishop of America, in order to share with you some thoughts regarding the present condition of Orthodoxy in America and our Ecumenical Patriarchate's position towards it.

Patriarch Kirill’s sends letters to Patriarch Maxim and Bulgarian president concerning the European Court

In February 2009, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia received a letter from His Holiness Patriarch Maxim of Bulgaria and the Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, notifying him of the decision made by the European Court of Human Rights on 22 January 2009 on the complaint lodged by the Bulgarian schismatic organization led by Innokentiy, ‘Metropolitan of Sofia'. The letter stated in particular that by this decision the European Court of Human Rights accused the Republic of Bulgaria of having violated Article 9 of the European Convention of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms because it believed the state had interfered in the canonical matters through law and actions to settle a dispute between ‘two leaderships' of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church.

Serbia, remember!

 Ten years since the NATO bombing of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and the Serbian people was marked last night by the national academy " Serbia, remember" at the Belgrade Sava Centre. At the academy spoke a legate of Patriarch Pavle of Serbia, His Eminence Bishop Amfilohije of Montenegro and the Littoral, Dr Vojislav Kostunica, academician Matija Beckovic, the head of the Radiology Centre of the Clinical centre of Serbia Dr Radomir Kovacevic and Branimir Nesic .

In Belgrade His Eminence Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro and the Littoral served a memorial service for the suffered in the NATO bombing of Serbia and Montenegro (1999), with the concelebration of Bishop Vasilije of Zvornik and Tuzla, Bishop Hrizostom of Zica, Retired Atanasije of Zahumlje and Hercegovina, Bishop Pahomije of Vranje, Bishop Atanasije of Hvosno, vicar of His Holiness Patriarch Pavle of Serbia, and priesthood and deacons, at the church of St Marko, at 5 P.M.
