Celebration of St Sava`s Day at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology in Belgrade

St Sava, the first Archbishop and the Serbian teacher, asevery year, is properly celebrated at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology of the University of Belgrade. His Grace Irinej of Bachka, a dean ofthe Faculty, and professor were greathosts of the two-day celebration which was dedicated to St Sava.

Bishop Mitrophan visits Boston parish for their church slava

His Grace Bishop Mitrophan of Eastern America made an archpastoral visit to the St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church in Boston on Sunday, January 25, 2009 on the occasion of their Church Slava. Bishop Mitrophan officiated at the Divine Liturgy assisted by the host priest V. Rev. Aleksandar Vlajkovic and local clergy. Following the cutting of the Slava Kolach the bishop attended the parish's annual St. Sava Day Program.

Georgian Orthodox Church celebrate St. Nina’s Day

On January 27, the Georgian Orthodox Church marks St. Nino's Day. In all churches of Georgian Patriarchate will be heldspecial festive prayer. His Holiness Ilia the Second, Catholicos Patriarch of All Georgians, is delivering a religious service at Sioni Cathedral.

On January 26, Saint Nina's Cross was brought to the Dusk Prayer and put down at the center of the temple. This is the very cross with which the saint baptized the whole Georgia. The believers will have a chance to visit the cathedral in the evening of January 27 and worship the miraculous cross.

SVS Seminarians March for Life

Twenty-six St. Vladimir's seminarians, along with family members, seminary staff, and SVS Chancellor Archpriest Chad Hatfield, joined a large "Orthodox Christians for Life" contingent in the annual "March for Life" in Washington, D.C. on January 22, 2009. This year marks the 36th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the U.S. Supreme Court's landmark 1973 decision legalizing abortion, and the SVS delegation traveled to the nation's capital to show their compassionate and protective stance toward the unborn and to express their strong disagreement with the Supreme Court decision.

New church in Levski

A new church, built almost entirely with private donations, opened Sunday in the Sofia "Levski" district. The construction of the Saint John Chrysostom; church began in 1995, but was completed just recently due to lack of funds, which have been collected mostly from the district's residents.

Gracanica : A formal St. Sava’s Day academy is held

In a small hall of the Culture centre in Gracanica,which was full of people, a formal St Sava`s Day academy was held with a Hymn to St Sava,performed by pupils of the Music school. At firstm, guests were addressed by Bishop Artemije of Raska - Prizren and Kosovo and Metohija, and on behalf of the City council, which organized the academy, they were welcomed by Dragutin Peric. On this occasion, Peric reminded of the suffering of the Serbian people and its sanctuaries in Kosovo and Metohija. He also, pointing at the hard position of the Serbian community in the province, appealed to stop selling the Serbian estates because of the further survival of the Serbian community in the province.
