Recently, at the Ophthalmology and ENT Clinic of the Foundation “The Orthodox Clinics of Annunciation”, began operating the service of ophthalmology surgery. In the surgery room are performed interventions with contemporary techniques as in other developed countries.

IOCS to organize Conference on the life and work of Metropolitan John Zizioulas

Metropolitan John Zizioulas, Lord Rowan Williams, Metropolitan Kallistos Ware and Revd Dr Bogdan Bucur in one-day IOCS Conference (14 June 2014)

The Institute for Orthodox Christian Studies, Cambridge is delighted to announce a very important one-day conference on 14 June 2014 celebrating the life and work of world-renowned Orthodox theologian Metropolitan John (Zizioulas) of Pergamon.

Bearing the title ‘On Eschatology Today’, the conference will take place at Westcott House in Cambridge and will bring together four extremely distinguished speakers. Besides Metropolitan John himself, the Institute will be honoured to also welcome Lord Rowan Williams, Metropolitan Kallistos of Diokleia and Revd Dr Bogdan Bucur of Duquesne University (USA). The main conference organiser is Revd Dr Liviu Barbu, Visiting Lecturer and Distance Learning Tutor for our Institute.

Reliquary with a portion of the Girdle of Holy Theotokos brought to Kazakhstan

On April 30, 2014, with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, a reliquary with a portion of the Holy Cincture (Belt) of the Mother of God was brought to Kazakhstan from the Moscow Church of Holy Prophet Elijah in Obydensky lane, reports Patriarchia.ru.

Rector of St. Elijah Church in Moscow Archpriest Maxim Shevtsov is accompanying the relic.

Communiqué of the Episcopal Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of Oceania

The members of the 4th Episcopal Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of Oceania welcomed the opportunity to meet in Sydney on Monday 28th April, 2014, under the chairmanship ex officio of His Eminence Archbishop Stylianos of Australia. 

Present were: His Eminence Archbishop Stylianos (Ecumenical Patriarchate); His Eminence Archbishop Paul (Antiochian Church); His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion (Russian Church - Australia & New Zealand); His Grace Bishop Irinej (Serbian Church); His Grace Bishop Mihail (Romanian Church); His Eminence Metropolitan Amphilochios (Ecumenical Patriarchate - New Zealand); His Grace Bishop Ezekiel (Assistant Bishop); His Grace Bishop Seraphim (Assistant Bishop); His Grace Bishop Nikandros (Assistant Bishop) and His Grace Bishop Iakovos (Assistant Bishop).

The Bishops continued the work of the Third Assembly, held in Sydney in October, 2012, attentively listened to the pastoral and other issues confronting our respective Churches  and heard several Reports of the relevant Committees:

Monument to Saint Vladimir vandalized in Kiev

 Unidentified vandals have attacked a bas-relief monument to St. Vladimir, the Baptizer of Rus’ and pride of Kievans. The monument was built less than a year ago on the banks of the Dnieper River, where the Slavs of Kievan Rus’ were baptized in 988, marking the beginning of Christian civilization in the Russian lands.
