His Beatitude Patriarch John X of Antioch and All East was awarded with the highest distinction of the Serbian Orthodox Church – the Order of Saint Sava of the First Degree.

The feast-day of the Protection of the Most Holy Mother of God, the 14th of October, 2018, was solemnly celebrated with the Holy Liturgy in the crypt of the Memorial Cathedral of Saint Sava in the Vracar district of the Serbian capital city, officiated by the Primates of the Serbian Orthodox Church and the Patriarchate of Antioch: His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, and His Beatitude Patriarch John X of Antioch and All East.

Greek Parliament awards Ecumenical Patriarch for his environmental work

The Greek Parliament and the Association of Constantinople awarded the Ecumenical Bartholomew for his multifaceted contribution to environmental protection, during a ceremony held at the Megaron Mousikis in Athens.

The ceremony took place in the ‘Christos Lambrakis’ hall in the presence of the President of the Hellenic Republic, Mr Prokopis Pavlopoulos, the political class as well as Church leaders among others.

The Biography of Patriarch of Antioch and All the East

His Beatitude John X was born in 1955 in the city of Lattakia, Syria. His father Mounah Yazigi was from Lattakia, a teacher of Arabic language. His mother Rosa Moussi is from Tripoli, Lebanon. They gave birth to four children – two boys and two girls. His Beatitude’s brother is His Grace Metropolitan Boulos of Aleppo. One sister is a nun. His Beatitude lived and studied in the city schools. He graduated from the University of Teshreen with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering. During his university studies, he played an active and leading role with the youth, which led to the establishment of a Byzantine Music School and many spiritual youth programs. His work led to a great spiritual revival among his generation.

The feast of Saint Thecla at the Patriarchate

On Sunday, September 24/October 7, 2018, the Patriarchate celebrated the commemoration of St. Thecla the First Martyr and Equal to the Apostles at her chapel within the Hagiotaphite Brotherhood, on the West side of the Church of Saints Constantine and Helen.

The Church holds the memory that Saint Thecla was Apostle Paul’s disciple and escorted him preaching Christ, while she endured many persecutions and died at the age of 90 in her hometown, Ikonion of Asia Minor.

Several religious and cultural manifestations were organized on October 2-4, 2018, to mark the 50th anniversary of the Orthodox Academy of Crete.

The events organized at Kolymbari, Crete, were chaired by His Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. On behalf of the Romanian Patriarch, the festivities were attended by His Grace Bishop Visarion of Tulcea. Also present were Patriarch Theophilos of Jerusalem, Archbishop Chrysostomos of Cyprus, Archbishop Anastasios of Albania, and Mr Prokopis Pavlopoulos, the President of the Greek Republic.

The Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States of America convened its ninth annual meeting today in Cleveland, Ohio.

The day began with a celebration of the Divine Liturgy at St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Cathedral in Parma, Ohio. His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios, Geron of America, Chairman of the Assembly, opened the meeting with a prayer. His Eminence Metropolitan Gregory of Nyssa, Secretary of the Assembly, took the roll call. Twenty-five hierarchs were present. Prior to the meeting, the hierarchs of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia notified the Chairman that they have suspended their participation in the Assembly in light of events currently ongoing in Ukraine.
