VIDEOS: Celebration of the 1,030th Anniversary of the Baptism of Rus’ in Kiev and Moscow

The Orthodox world gathered this week in celebration of the 1,030th anniversary of the Baptism of Rus’, celebrated on July 28, the day that the Church commemorates the holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Grand Prince Vladimir, who adopted the Orthodox faith for the people of Rus’ in 988.

Festive Liturgies, molebens, and cross processions were held throughout Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, and beyond, with the main celebrations being held in Kiev and Moscow.

A traditional mass Baptism was held on Saturday in the Chusovaya River, near Ekaterinburg, in which nearly 200 people were united to the holy Body of Christ.

Indian Orthodox faithful Dr. Cherian Eapen Honored by the Russian Orthodox Church

Dr. Cherian Eapen  a faithful of the Indian Orthodox Malankara Church was honored with the award of Sergei Radonezh – first degree by His Holiness Kiril- Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia. Dr Cherian Eapen was  given the award for his work among the homeless children in Russia. He is the first foreigner to receive the great honor. The award was granted after the Divine Liturgy on the feast of the icon of the Most Holy Theotokos (at the Church of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God) of the Pokrovsky Stauropegial Convent, in the village of Markovo, Ramensky District, Moscow Region.

On 18th July 2018, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, accompanied by the Chief Secretary of the Holy Synod the Very Reverend Archimandrite Daniel Biazis and with the presence of His Excellency the Consul General of Greece in Alexandria Mr. Emmanuel Kakavelakis, paid a visit to the Governor’s Office in Alexandria to meet with Dr. Mohamed Sultan, Governor of the Great City.

Delegations from 10 Orthodox Churches gather in Moscow to celebrate the Baptism of Rus’

In addition to the 250,000 faithful and delegations from 13 of the world’s 15 Orthodox Churches currently celebrating the Baptism of Rus’ in the ancient city of Kiev, delegations from 10 Local Orthodox Churches have also gathered in Moscow to celebrate the feast with His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow, reports Interfax-Religion.

who loved his new people, the land of Rus’,

Beloved of the Lord Right Reverend archpastors, venerable presbyters and deacons, God-loving monks and nuns, dear brothers and sisters!

All the fullness of our Church now honors the holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Grand Prince Vladimir and remembers with gratitude how 1,030 years ago a turning point in the history of the Slavic peoples occurred by the labors of this man, chosen of God and strong of spirit. By the blessed action of the Holy Spirit, the prince turned from pagan delusions, and believed in the one Son of God Jesus Christ, and receiving holy Baptism along with his entourage, brought the saving light of the Gospel to Rus’.
