St. Vladimir’s Seminary offers condolences on Repose of Patriarch Irinej

Christ is risen!

The community of St. Vladimir’s Seminary is offering prayers and condolences after the falling asleep of His Holiness, Irinej (Gavrilovic). His Holiness, the archbishop of Pec, metropolitan of Belgrade-Karlovci, and patriarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church, reposed in the Lord Friday morning in Belgrade after contracting COVID-19. His Holiness was 90 years old.

One of the most famous contemporary hagiographers, Hieromonk Loukas from Xenophontos Monastery on Mount Athos, has undertaken to “paint” the vision of Archbishop Elpidophoros of America who wants to depict the Paradise on earth in the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church.

Mount Athos: Prohibition of pilgrimage visits until end of month

The Holy Community of Mount Athos decided to ban pilgrimage visits until the 30th of November 2020 in order to stem the spread of the coronavirus.

In an announcement sent to the monasteries, issued following a meeting held on Monday, the Holy Community states that the visits of lay pilgrims will not be allowed, with the exception of a minimum number of employees and associates of the monasteries, only upon presentation of the invitation by the monastery. An employee or an associate will be allowed to visit only the monastery that issued the invitation. It is also forbidden to go from one monastery to another. Furthermore, monks from Mount Athos will have to present an exit permit issued by the monastery.

Archaeologists uncovered King David-era fortress on Golan Heights

Israeli archaeologists unveiled today a 3,000-year-old fortress on the Golan Heights that may have been built by allies of King David.

This fortress, made of basalt boulders, was discovered near the Jewish settlement of Hispin during archaeological excavations.
