Orthodox Christians in Albania were shocked and insulted by a presentation that took place during a recent book fair in the capital city of Tirana. The book that was unveiled, Demons in Cassocks, depicts Albania’s most beloved saint Kosmas of Aetolia, as well as the current primate of the Albanian Orthodox Church Archbishop Anastasios of Tirana, Durrës and All Albania, reports AgionOros.

On 1 December 2017, His Beatitude Archbishop Anastasios of Tirana and All Albania arrived in Moscow to take part in the celebrations marking the centenary of the restoration of Patriarchate in the Russian Orthodox Church.
The Primate of the Albanian Orthodox Church was met at the airport by Metropolitan Nikodim of Chelyabinsk and Zlatoust, Bishop Flavian of Cherepovets and Belozersk, Archpriest Igor Yakimchuk, DECR secretary for inter-Orthodox relations, and Hierodeacon Grigory (Sokolov), DECR staff member.

On 30 November 2017, His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos of the Holy City of Jerusalem and All Palestine arrived at the Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport. The Primate of the Church of Jerusalem came to Russia at the invitation of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia to attend the celebrations marking the centenary of the restoration of Patriarchate in the Russian Orthodox Church. Among those who met the high guest at the airport were Metropolitan Feodosy of Tambov and Rasskazovo, Bishop Tikhon of Podolsk, and Hegumen Feofan (Lukyanov), head of the Protocol Sector of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations.

“During my primatial visit to the Republic of Kyrgyzstan last May I was encouraged by the results of cooperation between the Church and the state in the country,” His Holiness Patriarch Kirill shared his impressions with the members of the Bishops’ Council. The state considers the Diocese of Bishkek as an ally in the solution of many topical tasks, for instance, in the struggle against extremism. Due attention is paid at the highest level to the problem of preudo-religious radicalism; all traditional religions are involved in the solution of this problem.

At the first session of the Bishops’ Council of the Russian Orthodox Church, the summarized information on the work carried out by the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia in the inter-council period was given.
Announcing the report, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia noted, ‘For the last two years I have made 51 visitations to dioceses of the Russian Orthodox Church, visiting 43 dioceses including those in Kirgizia and Uzbekistan. Altogether for almost nine years since my election to the Patriarchal see of Moscow I have made 221 trips to 116 dioceses’.

On 30 November 2017, the second day of the Council’s work, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufry of Kiev and All Ukraine presented a report about the life of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the present context and her peacemaking service. He mentioned the seizure of churches belonging to the communities of the canonical Church, the initiatives to discriminate the largest religious organization in Ukraine, and the problem with the state registration of the parishes. Metropolitan Onufry noted, however, that despite challenges and problems in the relations of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church with the state, certain positive tendencies are observed.
