Relics of St. Tikhon to visit U.S. parishes for centenary of Russian revolution

A piece of the relics of Patriarch St. Tikhon of Moscow will be brought to America this year, in honor of the 100th anniversary of the 1917 reestablishment of the patriarchate in Russia and of the atheist communist revolution in Russia, which also occurred in 1917 under the reign of the newly-enthroned St. Tikhon. At its February 21 meeting, the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia resolved to establish a committee for planning the visit of the relics to various parishes throughout the US, reports the ROCOR press service.

House of 16th century St. Philothea of Athens opened as museum

The museum of St. Philothea of Athens, the philanthropist nun and martyr of the sixteenth century, was inaugurated by His Beatitude Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece on Sunday February 19 in an event attended by several hierarchs of the Greek Orthodox Church and the Ecumenical Patriarchate, as well as several government representatives.

On Wednesday 2nd/15th February 2017, the feast of Hypapante (Meeting) of the Lord was celebrated by the Patriarchate at the Nunnery of Saida Naya, which is a stone’s throw away on the North side of the Church of the Resurrection, opposite Hanke Mosque and next to the Monastery of our Father among the Saints Euthymios.

Situation in Lugansk brings people to God

Asked by the Union of Orthodox Journalists, “How has the military conflict in the region changed your flock?”, Metropolitan Mitrophan (Yurchuk) responded that the ongoing tragic events have helped people to turn to God and the Church.

“When the most severe shelling in the city was going on, when people were deprived of light and water and food, then the rectors of our churches helped people in every way possible,” the bishop said. He highlighted the fact that priests and parishes provided both spiritual and material nourishment. Many churches served as shelters where people hid in the basement during attacks, thus surviving.

Bishop Maxim Visits Eugene and Portland, Oregon

Triple feast at Poland’s Supraśl Monastery

There were sevearl causes for celebration at the Annunciation Monastery in Supraśl in northeastern Poland on Sunday. First, as in all churches celebrating on the Old Calendar, the Three Holy Hierarchs—Sts. Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian, and John Chrysostom, three of the Church’s greatest saints and theologians—were celebrated, along with the consecration of the renovated Church of St. John the Theologian, and the name’s day of the monastery’s hierarch Bishop Gregory of Supraśl.
