Ruins of Georgian church discovered on Cyprus

Archaeological expeditions in search of ancient Georgian monasteries and churches on the island of Cyprus, known from ancient sources, have been underway since 2015. In December scientists reported a new discovery.

According to Blagovest, Georgian researchers recently found the small ruin of a wall near the village of Alaminos, west of the city of Larnaca. The area is surrounded by hills, with a flat field currently used for farming. The archaeologists believe the find bears witness to the existence of an ancient church, and that the discovered wall is in fact a part of it.

St. Paisios Church consecrated in Syria, first Liturgy served

On Friday, February 3, His Beatitude Patriarch John X of Antioch and All the East arrived in Jaramana, Syria to consecrate a new parish dedicated to the greatly beloved St. Paisios the Athonite. According to several posts on the Antiochian Patriarchate’s Facebook page, the temple was consecrated on Saturday, with the first Liturgy being celebrated on Sunday.

Patriarch Ilia II heads to Germany for treatment

His Holiness Patriarch-Catholicos Ilia II of Georgia is heading to Germany today for treatment following kidney stones, reports Georgia Online.

According to his doctor TsisanaShartava, one phase of the kidney stones is over, but a laboratory examination three days ago revealed a fever, so it was decided that the primate should fly to Germany for further examination and treatment, and surgery if necessary.

On Tuesday 18th/31th January 2017, a team of 16 students of the Music School of Alimos visited the Patriarchate, under the direction of the music teacher Mrs. Ioanna Aggelou, after the completion of two music performances at the Holy Metropolis of Acre-Ptolemaida on Saturday, 15th/28th January 2017, hosted by the Patriarchal Commissioner in Acre Archimandrite Philotheos, and on Sunday 16th/29th January 2017, at the Holy Metropolis of Nazareth, hosted by the Most Reverend Metropolitan Kyriakos of Nazareth.

France: Romanian Orthodox Metropolis buys St Nicholas Roman Catholic Church in Auvers-sur-Oise

The Romanian Orthodox Metropolis of Western and Southern Europe bought Wednesday, 25 January 2017, St Nicholas Church in Auvers-sur-Oise, located in the north-west of Paris.

The former roman-catholic church building dates back to 1910 and has not been used for 40 years, according to Fr. Răzvan Ionescu, rector of Sts. Paraskeva and Genevieve Romanian Parish in Paris.
