Romfilatelia: Postage stamp issue dedicated to Saint Nectarios of Aeghina

Romfilatelia introduced into circulation on Friday, February 14, current year, the postage stamps issue entitled 100 years since the passing into eternity of the Saint Hierarch Nectarios from Aegina.

Saint Hierarch Nectarios was born in 1846, in the Thracian Silivria (locality near Constantinople), from poor but very god-fearing parents, Dimos and Maria Kefalas, receiving the baptism name of Anastasie.

Bishop Metodije of Diokleia visits Archbishop Elpidophoros of America

On Monday, February 10, 2020, Bishop Metodije of Diokleia visited Archbishop Elpidophoros of America at the Archdiocese Headquarters, to discuss the current religious and political situation in Montenegro.

Bishop Metodije expressed his deep gratitude for the support given by His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. He also thanked Archbishop Elpidophoros of America for advocating on their behalf to Secretary Pompeo and Metropolitan Tikhon along with the hierarchs of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States of America for their solidarity. It sent a clear message to the hundreds of thousands of faithful in Montenegro marching peacefully twice a week, that they are not alone and that their struggle to save their sanctuaries is supported by their coreligionists in the United States.

More than 16,000 antiquities stolen from Turkish-occupied Cyprus, even found in Japan

More than 16,000 Christian icons, mosaics and murals dating from to 6th and 5th centuries have been forcibly stolen and sold abroad since the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974, according to the Director of the Office for Combating Illegal Possession and Trafficking of Antiquities, Michalis Gavriilidis.

Talk by Archbishop Job of Telmissos

A talk on “the role of the Ecumenical Patriarchate within the World Council of Churches and the importance of dialogue today” will be held by Thyateira Youth of the Archdiocese of Thyateira and Great Britain, on Saturday, February 15.

The talk will take place at the Thyateira House at 15:00 and will be given by Archbishop Job of Telmissos.

The Feast of St. Theodore Stratelates (the General) in the Patriarchate of Alexandria

On Saturday, February 8, 2020, feast of Saint Theodore Stratilates the Great Martyr, Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa officiated at the Divine Liturgy which was held at the Holy Patriarchal Chapel of Saints Theodores.

During the Liturgy, the African students of the Patriarchal School of “Saint Athanasius,” based in the Holy Patriarchal Monastery of St. Savvas the Sanctified, chanted according to the established order and the Alexandrian typical.

EU investigating charges of destruction of mosaics in Turkish-occupied Cyprus

In response to a written statement by Cypriot Euro-Deputy Costas Mavridis denouncing the deliberate abandonment and destruction of the mosaics of the Church of St. Eulalios in Turkish-occupied northern Cyprus, the relevant European Union commission has already taken up the matter, reports the Orthodoxia News Agency.

The commission’s cultural heritage committee has already begun investigating the fate of the mosaics of the church in the Kyrenia district in order to begin preservation work as soon as possible.<--break->
