Ekaterini Sakellaropoulou first female elected to be president of the Hellenic Republic

Senior judge and president of the Council of State Ekaterini Sakellaropoulou was on Wednesday elected to become the new president of the Hellenic Republic. She will succeed the current president Prokopios Pavlopoulos once his term ends on March 13, becoming the eighth president after democracy was restored in Greece in 1974, the 13th in the history of the Hellenic Republic and the first woman elected to the office of Greek president.
