Shadeland Camp - week two

August 2019 - 14:23Entering into the second week of the Shadeland season, the staff was very excited as this week set a record for the first time the camp hosted over 100 children compared to the normal capacity of 76 children. Three different barracks housed campers due to the high demand for this week of camp. We were fortunate enough to have both V. Rev. Protosingelos Sava Medakovic and V. Rev. Fr. Borjan Vitanov as our priests for the week, leading the children in prayer and religion class daily.
Ancient Serbian monastery at Leštani will be restored
6. August 2019 - 13:14On the feast-day of Saint Stephen Despot of Serbian and Venerable Eugenia (Lazarevic), August 1, 2019, the Holy Liturgy was celebrated by Revd. Priest Rajko Rajić from Zaklopača with concelebration of Archimandrite Joaniki (Đukić), Abbot, in the chapel of the old monastery of Saint George at Leštani, near Belgrade.
After the Liturgy, the patron saint loaf was consecrated and broken at the site of the former 15th century monastery complex. Archimandrite Joanikije recalled the past of this medieval Serbian sanctuary and expressed a desire that this annual celebration of Saint Stefan Despot of Serbia in the restored monastery at Leštani would become a traditional gathering of faithful people in that holy place.
Patriarch Irinej celebrated at Beli Potok on St. Mary’s of Magdalene
5. August 2019 - 12:56His Holiness Patriarch Irinej celebrated in the church of St. Mary Magdalene in the village of Beli Potok, near Belgrade, at the foot of Mount Avala.
The church was built in 1883 thanks to voluntary donations and the work of the local faithful. The church was built in the style of the Raška school. The consecration of the church was performed by Metropolitan Michael in 1885. On the day when the Holy Church celebrates St. Mary Magdalene, a myrrh-bearer, on August 4, 2019, the clergy with the faithful people of Beli Potok welcomed His Holiness the Patriarch of Serbia.
Bishop Jovan of Slavonia at St. Elijah’s festivities in Moscow
5. August 2019 - 12:55On the second day of August 2019, when the Holy Church celebrates the Feast of the Holy Prophet Elijah, St. Elijah’s festivities were traditionally held at the Ilinka Street in Moscow.
The celebration started with the triumphant Divine Liturgy in the church of Prophet Elijah, served by Bishops Theophilact of Dmitrov and John of Slavonia and a number of clergy. After the Liturgy, a solemn procession went from this church towards the Red Square and a prayer service – moleban to the Holy Prophet Elijah was served at the so-called Lobno Place.
Patronal Feast Day in Atlanta
5. August 2019 - 12:38Saints Peter and Paul Serbian Orthodox church in Atlanta joyously celebrated their Slava on July 21, 2019. This was first Slava celebration in the newly built church that was consecrated last October, thus making this years Slava that much more joyful.
Serbian Patriarch receives Ambassador of the Russian Federation
31. July 2019 - 9:28His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch received His Excellency Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Serbia in the Serbian Patriarchate in Belgrade on 30 July 2019.
The audience was attended by Mr. Denis Kuznedelev, Minister-Counsellor of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Belgrade; and deacon Aleksandar Prascevic, head of the Office of the Serbian Patriarch.
