As the ‎new roof starts taking its form, atop our beloved New York City Cathedral, the saving of Saint Sava Cathedral has truly begun.

The principal steel roof trusses are now in place, bolted and welded, tying together the previously freestanding historic stone walls. With the imminent installation of the metal-deck roof covering – presently stacked on the roof framing and ready for distribution, as seen in the photos – the trusses will become further braced laterally, thereby contributing to the general stability of the building as a whole.

The parishioners gathered at the call of His Eminence Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro and Littoral, the head of the largest Serbian diocese in Montenegro.

Serbian Army Lieutenant Presbyter Goran Sandic in Fort Jackson

There have been military clergy in the Serbian Army since  it gained statehood.

Knjaz Milosh Obrenovich in the constitution of the newly liberated state, in 1839, defines that they shall have priests in the army. After the Second World War, it was not allowed to pray to God in Serbian military barracks. This service was re-established in 2013.
