Serbian Patriarch Porfirije: -Brothers and sisters, may this beautiful city be blessed, this God-gathered, beautiful country that has everything from God! He has the Divine thought inscribed in him, which only if we recognize, we will recognize also the God present here. Blessed be this land and all its inhabitants! Here, dear Bishop, Metropolitan, I entrust to you this flock, sure that you will take it in your arms and offer it to God with dignity. May you all be blessed and live for many years!

- I congratulate you on the new Metropolitan whom we enthroned this morning in the Cetinje Monastery, by the providence of God, the Holy Spirit, the prayers of the Holy Assembly Fathers and the prayers of all of you. Today, the entire Orthodox Church rejoices, both heavenly and earthly, but above all, St. Peter of Cetinje rejoices today, St. Basil of Ostrog and so many saints on the throne of the Metropolitans of Cetinje and Montenegro-Littoral rejoice, all the way to your unforgettable spiritual father, and our teacher and father of all gathered here, Metropolitan Amfilohije of blessed repose. They rejoice because of a worthy heir, and an honorable and worthy one, brothers and sisters, your intercessor before the Lord, are the words with which His Holiness Porfirije, Serbian Patriarch, addressed the people in the Cathedral of  Resurrection of Chrust in Podgorica upon his arrival from Cetinje, where he solemnly introduced to the throne the Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral, His Eminence Joanikije, whom the Assembly of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church elected as successor of Metropolitan Amfilohije of blessed repose, on September 5, 2021.

Biography of Metropolitan Joanikije of Montenegro and the Littoral

His Eminence Metropolitan Joanikije (Micovic) of Montenegro and the Littoral was born on 20 April 1959 in Velimlje (Banjani). He finished Grammar school in Niksic. He graduated at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Belgrade in 1990 and was senior undergraduate at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Belgrade in the speciality of philosophy.

He was tonsured on October 30, 1990 in the monastery of Celija Piperska. He was ordained to the rank of hierodeacon on February 7, 1991, and to the rank of hieromonk on February 17, 1991, when he was appointed acting head of the Savina monastery. He was appointed head of the Cetinje Monastery, teacher and head educator in the newly renovated Cetinje seminary on September 1, 1992. In September 1995, he was promoted to the rank of protosynchellos and appointed acting rector of the Cetinje seminary.

Metropolitan Joanikije of Montenegro and the Littoral enthroned

His Holiness Porfirije, Serbian Patriarch, officiated the Holy Hierarchical Liturgy with the concelebration of His Grace Joanikije, Bishop of Budva-Niksic and the elected Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral, and His Grace Bishop David of Krusevac, a member of the Holy Synod of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church, in the Cetinje Monastery on September 5, 2021.

On that occasion, His Holiness Porfirije, Serbian Patriarch, implemented the decision of the Holy Assembly  of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church and introduced the newly elected Metropolitan Joanikije of Montenegro and the Littoral to the the ancient, sacred throne of the Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral.

With the blessing of His Holiness Porfirije, Serbian Patriarch, the decision of the Holy Assembly of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church on the election of Bishop Joanikije as Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral was read by His Grace Bishop David of Krusevac. David, a member of the Holy Synod of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
