His Beatitude Pope and Patriarch Theodoros II of Alexandria and All Africa, paying an official (irenic) visit to His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch and the Serbian Orthodox Church, arrived in Belgrade last night, on 22 September 2017.

His Beatitude Patriarch Theodoros and the delegation of the Church of Alexandria was welcomed at the Belgrade airport Nikola Tesla by His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, with His Eminence Porfirije Metropolitan of Zagreb-Ljubljana and Their Graces Bishops: Irinej of Backa, Justin of Zica, Fotije of Zvornik-Tuzla and Milutin of Valjevo. At the airport there were also present ambassadors of Greece and Egypt to Belgrade, Mr. Elias Eliadis and Mr. Ezzeldin Fahmy Mahmoud Fahmy.

Collection begins to build Karelia chapel in honor of children who died in 2016 storm

A nationwide fundraiser for constructing a chapel in the village of Kudama on the shore of Lake Syamozero in Russia’s northwestern Karelia Province in honor of the fourteen children who drowned in the lake last summer was announced on Tuesday, reports TASS.

“The initiative to erect a chapel near the cross that was set up after the tragedy was made by the parents of the children who perished. The proposal was supported by the head of the republic… Today we are announcing a nationwide fundraiser for its construction,” the press release reads.

On behalf of the clergy, monastics and the faithful of the Diocese of Zica, His Grace Bishop Justin of Zica handed over to His Holiness Irinej the Order of Venerable Simon the Monk at the Serbian Patriarchate on 19 September 2017.

His Grace Bishop Justin of Zica indicated in his exposition that His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, was honored "for his wise guidance of our Holy Church, for the diligent and persistent testimony of Resurrected Christ" in today's conditions of life that have been burdened with both old and new difficulties and challenges.

His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, received in an audience a delegation from Iran headed by Ayatollah Seyyed Hassan  Mostafavi, at the Serbian Patriarchate on 18 September 2017.

Ayatollah Mostafavi expressed his gratitude to the Primate of the Serbian Orthodox Church for the cordial reception during which they discussed theological, ethical and social topics. The Serbian Patriarch thanked the distinguished guest for the visit, wishing him every God's blessing.

Continuing tradition, on Sunday September 10 for the commencement of the 2017-2018 church school year, the St. Nicholas parish of Philadelphia served the moliban and blessing of the children for the upcoming school year. This year ‘s theme is “ We Worship God In Church” and will focus on our life in the Church, the Divine Liturgy, and the Holy Gospel. The children are divided into five class levels, and new to this year is a first grade class.

On Tuesday, September 5th, clergy and faithful from throughout the Cleveland and Pittsburgh Deaneries of the Eastern-American Diocese gathered around His Grace Bishop Irinej at New Marcha Monastery in joyful celebration of their Hierarch’s Names Day. Services began with fourteen clergy greeting His Grace outside of the small monastery church of St. Archangel Gabriel. The clergy entered in solemn procession as faithful sang gloriously in the nave. Blue vestments were worn by all concelebrating clergy in honor and celebration of the Apodosis of the Feast of the Dormition of the Theotokos.
