Awards of "St. Sava" and "Carica Milica" orders in St. George in Joliet

Upon the recommendation of His Grace Bishop Longin the Holy Synod of the Serbian Orthodox Church awarded Dr. Howard Grundy and Nick Malinovich with the “St. Sava Order” of the Third Degree and Darlene Jovanovich with the “Carica Milica” Order.

Dr. Howard Grundy is the President of the church board at the St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in Joliet, Illinois. He has distinguished himself in devotion and dedication to the parish, as well as being a great contributor. He joined parish in 1995 and ever since he has actively participated in all parish endeavors. His leadership has been very constructive and positive in all aspects of church life.

Nick Malinovich was born in Joliet. He was raised in St. George Parish, serving as an altar boy and in many other capacities. He has been on the church board for the last 40 years in various capacities, several times as president and currently serves as the first vice president. He grew together with the parish, participating in all areas and actively supporting all church projects. Beside being active in the local parish Nick has served on the Diocesan and Church National level. He is presently the member of the Diocesan Council and the Central Church Council.

 The Annual blessing of the Monongahela River near St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in Carmichaels, Pennsylvania in connection with the Feast of Theophany began in 1999 and has continued to the present. Parishioners come to the riverside and the St. George Choir sings responses. An ice cross prepared by Sonia Janson is placed in the river at the conclusion of the service.

Chicago Deanery clergy meeting

The Chicago Deanery clergy, with the blessing of His Grace Bishop Longin, held the meeting on January 15, 20015 in St. Sava Church facilities in Merrillville, Indiana. His Grace Bishop Longin attended meeting and extended greetings and his blessings to all present. There were 14 priests in attendance: protopresbyters-stavrofors Nedeljko Lunich, Bogdan Zjalic, Luka Lukic, Ilija Balach, Milos Vesin, Savo Bosanac; protopresbyters: Savo Cakardic, Dobrivoje Milunovic, Aleksandar Novakovic, Marko Matic, Darko Spasojevic; protonamesnik Radovan Jakovljevic; presbyters Sasa Nedic and Nikolaj Kostur.

President of Serbia visits Serbian Patriarch

His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, received  President of the Republic of the Republic of Serbia Mr. Tomislav Nikolic at the Serbian Patriarchate yesterday, on 22 January, 2015. 

The meeting was attended by the members of the Holy Synod of Bishops: His Eminence Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro and the Littoral and Their Graces Bishops: Lavrentije of Sabac and Teodosije of Raska-Prizren, as well as protopresbyter-stavrophor Dr. Savo Jovic, Chief Secretary of the Holy Synod. At the meeting they discussed issues and problems faced by the Church and the State, as well as ways of overcoming them.

A solemn Vesper service was served on the eve of the feast, with the placing of the Badnjak, officiated by His Grace Bishop Georgije of Canada, with the concelebration of V. Rev. Stavrophor Zivorad Subotic, Protosindjel Vasilije (Gavrilovic) and Protodeacon Stefan Ikonomovsky. Many were gathered in church from surrounding areas: Toronto, Hamilton and Kitchener, taking part in the service and blessing of the Badnjak. After the service His Grace read the Nativity Encyclical of His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Irinej.

Every year on the day of the baptism of our Lord two of the old calendar churches in Indianapolis Indiana gather at St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church for Divine liturgy.
