Feast day of St. Luke the Apostle and the Evangelist and St. Peter of Cetinje

His Eminence Amfilohije Archbishop of Cetinje and Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral, the Bishop-administrator of the Diocese of Buenos Aires and South-Central America served on Sunday, October 30, 2011 with the concelebration of local priests, the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy on the occasion of the feast day of St. Apostle and Evangelist Luke and St. Peter of Cetinje in the Cathedral Church of the Nativity of Most Holy Theotokos in Buenos Aires. In diaspora it is usually that the services of the great holidays are moved to Sunday because of the duties of the faithful during the working week, what was similar this time.

Relics of St. Petka welcomed in Halmstadt and anniversary of the foundation of the Diocese celebrated

On the Holy Liturgy on October 30, 2011 a lot of the faithful came, and with their prayer welcomed the relics of St. Petka which were solemnly received in the church. The relics are brought thanks to father Nektarije, the head of the monastery Olofström in Blekinge, about one hundred kilometres away from Halmstad. Thanks to the commitment of presbyter Milan Vukasin to the monastery of St. George, protosyngellos Nektarije (Samardzic) gave as a gift the relics of St. Petka. Not only Serbs came to worship the relics, there were also believers from the Romanian and Russian Orthodox Church as well as Orthodox Swedes.

Royals salute church's centennial

St. George Serbian Orthodox Church's century celebration Sunday brought together Serbian royalty from Belgrade, Orthodox Christian clergy from across North America and Europe and hundreds of Serbian-Americans and friends.

Following morning worship services at the church, Crown Prince Alexander II and Princess Katherine of Serbia were honored guests at a luncheon at the nearby Halls of St. George in Schererville.

Memorial service to Serbian prisoners from the First and Second World War in Austria

On Thursday, November 1, 2011 the Serbian Orthodox parishes in Vienna organized a group visit to cemetaries on which the Serbian prisoners from the First and Second World War are buried. This visit traditionally is organized on November 1, before a commemoration of the dead before the feast of Saint Michael the Archangel.

Fashion to benefit frescos

When Orthodox Serbs who fled the communist regime during World War II established St. Elijah Parish and built the cathedral in Merrillville at 8700 Taft St., they did so to provide a place of worship for their children and a gathering place for all Orthodox Serbs.

Today, the next generation is continuing that legacy by raising funds to paint the interior walls of the cathedral with religious frescos.

Jeremic: Monuments of the Serbian Orthodox Church cannot belong to the so-called republic of Kosovo

At the UNESCO General Conference in Paris, Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic stated that monasteries and churches of the Serbian Orthodox Church cannot belong to the so-called republic of Kosovo. He reminded that 4 sites listed as endangered monuments under UNESCO’s protection are located in the southern Serbian province, and as a state, Serbia is responsible for their protection. Honoring identities of all inhabitants of the province is one of preconditions for reconciliation, while excluding or negating anyone’s identity makes it impossible, Jeremic emphasized. He saluted UNESCO’s status-neutral work in Kosovo.
