Communique of the Holy Synod of Bishops
of the Serbian Orthodox Church

As regards the latest developments in Montenegro relating to the announced adoption of the draft Law on Freedom of Religion or Belief and Legal Status of Religious Communities, the Holy Synod of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church hereby expresses its support to the archbishops, clergy, monasticism and faithful people of the dioceses: Montenegro and the Littoral, Budimlje-Niksic, Mileseva and Zahumlje-Herzegovina, to continue defending their religious rights in Montenegro, encouraged by the power of the Holy Spirit and the prayerful representation of the saints of our own kin.

Serbian Patriarch expressed condolences to Archbishop of Albania and Albanian people

On the occasion of the catastrophic earthquake in Albania, His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch sent a letter of condolences to His Beatitude Archbishop Anastasios of Tirana, Durres and All Albania:

Your Beatitude,

We have received the sad news that a very strong earthquake with disastrous consequences struck Albania.

We personally, as well as the Pleroma of the Serbian Orthodox Church, extend our deepest prayerful condolences to You, the afflicted families and all the citizens of Albania.

Deeply saddened by this tragic event, We pray to the Lord that He may preserve the lives of all the people who dwell in the earthquake-hit region and give comfort to victims’ relatives and friends.

Communique on health conditions of His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Irinej

A health condition of His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, who is being hospitalized at the Military Medical Academy, is stable.

His recovery is in progress, and a permanent consulting body of doctors of the Military Medical Academy headed by Brigadier General Prof. Dr. Dragan Dincic expects that the Primate of the Serbian Church will reassume his regular responsibilities soon.

800 Years of the Autocephaly of the Serbian Orthodox Church:
Endowed by God, Treasured by the People

The hierarchs, clergy and delegates representing parishes and diocesan bodies from the three Dioceses of the Serbian Orthodox Church in the United States of America met July 13-16, 2019 at New Gracanica Monastery in Third Lake, Illinois and St. Sava Monastery in Libertyville, Illinois for the 22nd Church Assembly-Sabor of the Serbian Orthodox Dioceses in the United States. Throughout, the meetings were characterized by Christian fellowship in prayer, which brings the love and unity of mind and heart, which are the gifts of the Holy Spirit to those who assemble in Christ's name to the glory of God the Father.

The Communique of the Holy Assembly of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church from their regular meeting held at Zica Monastery and in Belgrade, May 9-18, 2019

This year’s regular meeting of the Holy Assembly of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church began on May 9, 2019 in Monastery Zica, the first headquarters of the autocephalous Serbian Church, while the 800th anniversary of autocephaly, full Church independence, that great gift from God and great achievement of Saint Sava, we celebrate this year. After the Holy conciliar Hierarchical Liturgy and the Invocation of the Holy Spirit at the monastery church of Zica Monastery, the first sessions, under the presidency of His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Irinej, were held at the monastery, May 9-10, 2019, while beginning May 11th the Assembly continued its work at the Patriarchate in Belgrade. Participating in the Assembly were all diocesan hierarchs of the Serbian Orthodox Church with the exception of Bishop Luka of Western Europe.
