Stefan Nemanja – Saint Simeon the Myrrh-Gusher (1113-2013)
At the National Museum in Belgrade on January 11th, 2014 the solemn academy on the occasion of the nine centuries of the birth of Stefan Nemanja began with the hymn Lord, Give Us Justice and the prayer Our Father.
An author of the program entitled “The Vertical of Victory” on the occasion of the nine centuries since the birth of Saint Simeon the Myrrh-Gusher is Jasmina Stoiljkovic, drama artist of the Serbian drama of the National Theatre from Prishtina, and the organizer is the Geopolitika magazine, along with the support of the National Museum.
On behalf of the organizers Slobodan Eric, as the editor-in-chief, addressed the audience. Artist Jasmina Stoiljkovic and Branislava Platisa read passages from the Life of Saint Simeon, while protopresbyter-stavrophor Professor Dr. Radomir Popovic talked about the Life of Saint Simeon the Myrrh-Gusher with a view of the then social, political and spiritual situation.
The solemn academy concluded with the song Arise, Serbia (Vostani Serbije) and prayerful chanting of the hymn to Saint Sava.
This magnificent spiritual and cultural performance was attended by Serbian Patriarch Irinej, Bishop Andrej of Remesiana, General Colonel Jovica Draganic, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces; Ambassador of Belarus Vladimir Chushev, representative of the Embassy of the Russian Federation Yuri Pichugin, deputy director of the Office for Cooperation with Churches and Religious Communities Bratislav Petkovic, president of the Cultural and Educational Community of Serbia Zivorad Ajdacic and other eminent people from the political and cultural life.
