Hellenic International Academy in Harare

His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa  was warmly welcomed by the 840 pupils of the Hellenic International Academy in Harare, the Greek School that 140 Greek children and 700 others from Zimbabwe attend and which has a special place among all the schools of this Southern African Country.

Digitalization of Libraries in Ecumenical Patriarchate Under the Aegis of HTO

Greek HTO and Cosmote company have undertaken the work of digitalization and documentation of Libraries in the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the Theological School of Halki.

The chairman and chief executive of HTO, Michalis Tsamaz visited the Ecumenical Patriarch in Constantinople in order to give information about the contribution of HTO to digitalization of libraries in Patriarchate, using modern methods of analysis and access to the digitalized material.

A working team consisting of analysts, consultants, and engineers will be responsible for the creation of an information infrastructure for digitalization and documentation of written cultural documents in Patriarchate and Theological School.

Committee for Jasenovac at Summer school in Holocaust Studies in Ohrid

In the period from September 26 until October 2, 2011 in Ohrid an international seminar on the holocaust research took place entitled The Diverse Survival Strategies of Jewish and Roma Communities in Macedonia: From Resistance to Memorialization. The coordinator of the Committee for Jasenovac of the Holy Assembly of Bishops Bishop Jovan Culibrk of Lipljan and associate of the Committee monk M.Sc. Pavle Kondic. The organisator of the seminar was the Institute for social and humanistic sciencies Euro-Balkan from Skopje in the cooperation with the International work group for the holocaust research and the program of the Ohrid Summer University (OSU).

After 12 years the Seminary in Prizren begins to work

In Prizren today the Seminary " Sts. Cyril and Methodius" has been officialy brought back ,after twelve years in the exile. With an enrollment of the first generation of future theologians, where Bishop Teodosije of Prizren, professors of the theology, pupils and their parents were present, the work of one of the most famous Serbian educational institutions of the SOC was solemnly restored. Although temporary relocated, the Prizren Seminary in Nis continues its work, and in next couple of yers one will work on a full return of this school in Prizren. 

XVI International Conference on Patristic Studies held in Oxford

The XVI International Conference on Patristic Studies is being held from August 8 to 12, 2011, in the University of Oxford, Great Britain, the Bogoslov.ru portal has reported.

The first Conference on Patristic Studies was held in Oxford in 1951. It was organized by Frank Leslie Cross (1900-1968), a senior Professor of Divinity in the University of Oxford. Since that time the Conference has taken place once in four years and attracted an increasing number of specialists.

Icons from 3rd century revealed

The Pontifical Commission for Sacred Archeology is the Vatican body responsible for the care of ancient cemeteries and other artifacts from the early Christian centuries. They recently unveiled this 3rd century hypogeum, or underground burial chamber, that belonged to the Aurelia family of Rome.

Raffaella Giuliani an archeologist of the Pontifical Commission for Sacred Archeology says: “The paintings represent the lives of the Aureli, as we can see from the paintings they were a wealthy family that owned many houses, in the painting we can see the construction of these villas and gardens from imperial Rome. These scenes are inspired by the Homeric poems, in particular by the story of Odysseus.”
