International Symposium of Byzantologists in Nis

Since 2001 in Nis, the International Symposium on Nis and Byzantium has been held traditionally within the celebration of the feast day of the city - Czar Constantine. This symposium gathers scientific elite from the whole world from the areas of art history, archeology, history, theology and literature. The history of the early Christian period of Nis is supported by the new scientific arguments and in a great part it differs in comparison with the knowledge which had been available before the beginning of holding the scientific symposium since 2002, said today one of the founders of this symposium Dr. Misa Rakocija.

Visit of Minister Vuk Jeremic to the Serbian Patriarchate

His Holiness Patriarch Irinej of Serbia has received today, on March 1, 2010 in a working visit Mr. Vuk Jeremic, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia. The meeting was attended by His Grace Bishop Irinej of Bachka, member of the Holy Synod of Bishops of the SOC, and His Grace Vicar Bishop Atanasije of Hvosno.

Patriarch Irinej of Serbia meets with Mr. Ivica Dacic, Minister of Internal Affairs

His Holiness Patriarch Irinej of Serbia received the first vicepresident of the Government of the Republic of Serbia - Deputy Prime Minister of the Government and Minister of Internal Affairs Mr. Ivica Dacic.

During the conversation the importance of the Serbian Church was stressed and place that had in our society. Minister Dacic pointed out promptness of the Serbian police to help the Church within its jurisdiction, as well as during organization of the international celebration of the anniversary of the Edict of Milan, which ought to be organized in Nish. The theme of the conversation was also a protection of the monuments of culture and monasteries in Kosovo and Metohia by the representatives of the international community.

Patriarch of Serbia meets with President of Serbia

Serbian President Boris Tadic talked yesterday with His Holiness Patriarch Irinej of Serbia and pointed out that the Church had an important place in our society. President and Patriarch spoke about the position of the clergy and monks of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Kosovo and Metohia, as well as on the protection of the cultural heritage in the southern province of Serbia.

COMMUNIQUE From the Holy Assembly of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church Held in Belgrade May 14-22,2009

With the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Pavle and under the presidencyof His Eminence Metropolitan Amphilohije of Montenegro and the Coastlands, who, in accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of the Serbian Orthodox Church is serving as substitute to the ailing Patriarch, the regular Assembly of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church was held at the Patriarchate in Belgrade from May 14 through 22, 2009. Participating in the work of the Assembly were all the diocesan hierarchs of the Serbian Orthodox Church, including His Beatitude Archbishop of Ohrid and Metropolitan of Skoplje Jovan with the hierarchs of the Autonomous Archdiocese of Ochrid.

Conscious of the Church's responsibility for the life and salvation of people and of the great spiritual challenges of our day, the Holy Assembly of Bishops dedicated itself to solving the vital questions of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
