Central celebration of the 1700th anniversary of the Edict of Milan in Kukljin

On Saturday, 13 July 2013, on the feast of Saint Peter, the central celebration of the Diocese of Krusevac on the occasion of the marking the 1700^th anniversary of the publication of the Edict of Milan (313 A.D.) was held on Gradiste hill which belongs to a village of Kukljin (near Krusevac). The church of Holy Emperor Constantine and Empress Helen is located on the hill which locals call Gradiste.

Episcopal Assembly of Oceania marks the 1,700th Anniversary of the Edict of Milan

The Episcopal Assembly of Oceania solemnly marked the 1,700th Anniversary of the issuance of the Edict of Milan by the Roman Emperor St Constantine the Great in 313 AD with the Pan-Orthodox celebration of Great Vespers for Feast of Sts Constantine and Helen on Monday evening, 20 May 2013.

The National Museum: Constantine the Great and the Edict of Milan 313

One of central events which marks seventeen centuries since the official recognition of the Christianity is the exposition “Constantine the Great and the Edic of Milan 313. The birth of Christianity in Roman provinces in the territory of Serbia”, which was opened on July 2^nd at the National Museum in Belgrade. More than 180 artifacts are on display, produced since the second century A.D.

Nis: International Scientific Symposion on the occasion of the 1700th anniversary of the Edict of Milan concluded

Under auspices of His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, the International Scientific Symposion was held on the occasion of the 1700th anniversary of the Edict of Milan (31 May – 2 June 2013)

The organizers of this symposion are the Center for religious studies Nis, the Institute for Orthodox Christian Studies of the University of Cambridge, the Center for Religious and Slav Studies „Ivan Dujchev“ from Sofia, the Institute for National and Religious Issues (Thessaloniki), the History Department of the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade and the Faculty of Philosophy in Nis.

Verdi’s “Aida” under starry sky in Viminacium

Opera spectacle in open, the masterpiece of the famous Italian Giuseppe Verdi’s “Aida” was performed in the evening on 21 May 2013  in Viminacium under the starry sky in a restored Roman amphitheater in attendance of 2200 visitors.

The musical and theatrical spectacle, as a part of the state program of marking 17 centuries of the Edict of Milan, was solemnly opened by Ambassador of Italy in Serbia Armando Varricchio as the host of the evening. The Embassy of Italy donated the performance of “Aida” at Viminacium to the state project of marking the Edit of Milan. Mr. Varricchio welcomed President of Serbia Tomislav Nikolic, officials and diplomats, and thanked for the opportunity that his country participated in the celebration of the Edict of Milan.

Emperor Constantine’s Edict of Milan: 1700 years later

On Friday, May 17, 2013, the Ecumenical Patriarchate honored the 1700th anniversary of Emperor Constantine the Great's "Edict of Milan" by hosting an international and interfaith one-day seminar in collaboration with the Council of European Episcopal Churches at the Conrad Hotel in Istanbul, Turkey. The seminar -- which was held only days before the Orthodox Feast of Saints Constantine and [his mother] Helen as well as in the city founded by and named after Constantine the Emperor -- was generously sponsored by the Order of Saint Andrew the Apostle, Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in America. The joint moderators were Metropolitan Emmanuel of France (Ecumenical Patriarchate) and Péter Cardinal Erdö (CCEE).
