Vice President Joe Biden visited today Archbishop Demetrios of America, Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church in America at the headquarters of the Archdiocese in Manhattan.

The two discussed the matter of religious freedom and the Ecumenical Patriarchate and other issues of mutual interest regarding security and peace in the Balkans and the Eastern Mediterranean.

States have right to interfere in religious sphere for the sake of national security, support positive and restrict negative tendencies in religious sphere, the Moscow Patriarchate official believes.

"Today only the blind doesn't see that there are religious communities worthy of support and there are phenomena which are as dangerous as Nazism and Fascism, banned in many countries. And we should adequately respond to this reality," head of the Synodal Department for Church and Society Relations Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin said at a seminar in Moscow.

On this occasion His Holiness will bless bells and crosses which were given to this newly-built church of God by families Starcevic, Malbasic, Rebrenovic, Trifkovic and Petrovic.

Vuk Jeremic stated on Tuesday that on Serbia′s election to the UNESCO World Heritage Committee will strengthen its positions regarding the nation′s heritage.
The Serbian foreign minister stressed that it will help in efforts to prevent the attempts of renaming Serbian Orthodox Christian monasteries in Kosovo and refer to them as "Kosovar". “If they are not Serbian, than nothing is. This deals a blow to the very core of our national identity, but as of next year we will be in a much better position to protect our identity,” Jeremić said in a statement for Tanjug.
