Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria visits Metropolis of Kenya

February 2009 - 9:06His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa was welcomed on the morning of 10th February 2009, to the sound of the bells ringing, by the pupils and students of the Educational Institutes of the Holy Metropolis of Kenya, in Nairobi, singing and chanting in Greek.
His Beatitude spoke emotionally about the work of the Patriarchal Academy of Kenya, "Makarios III" which this year celebrates its 28th anniversary and which has 55 seminarians. He also spoke of the Educational Academy with its 400 students and the Primary School "Clement of Alexandria" which has 150 pupils.

It was founded on 23rd January 1959 as the "Greek Orthodox Holy Metropolis of Accra and West Africa ". Today this Metropolis numbers in its jurisdiction the countries of Cameroon , Chad , Central African Republic , Gabon , Equatorial Guinea and the Islands of St Tome and Principe.
Commemoration 1140 Years since Death of Saint Cyril
16. February 2009 - 9:50Saturday, February 14 marks the 1140 anniversary of the death of Saint Cyril in Rome in 869. The two brothers, Saints Cyril and Methodius were born in Thessaloniki in the 9th century. They became missionaries of Christianity among the Slavs and influenced the cultural development of all Slavic people.

Russian Patriarch visits China
16. February 2009 - 9:29The newly elected Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill met a delegation of the People's Republic of China led by Ye Xiaowen, head of the State Administration for Religious Affairs, who is well-known for his anti-Vatican attacks.
The meeting took place on 2 February but was reported only yesterday on the Orthodoxy in China website. Kirill thanked Ye for the visit which took place "on the day of my enthronement", he said. As a matter of fact, it occurred a day earlier.
