Enthronement of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill at the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour
3. February 2009 - 11:30The enthronement of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia took place at the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour on 1 February 2009. He was elected to the Moscow Patriarchal Throne by the Local Council of the Russian Orthodox Church on January 27. The bells started ringing fifteen minutes before the Divine service; as the nominated Patriarch arrived, festal peeling began. At the entrance to the cathedral, the elected Primate of the Russian Church was met with bread and salt. The archpastors, pastors, monastics and thousands of laymen gathered at the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour. His Beatitude Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria Theodore, His Beatitude Archbishop Anastasios of Tirana and All Albania, His Beatitude Metropolitan Sawa of Warsaw and All Poland, His Beatitude Metropolitan Christopher of the Czech Lands and Slovakia, and delegations of all Local Orthodox Churches attended the enthronement. His Eminence Metropolitan Amfilohije, His Beatitude Archbishop of Ohrid Jovan and His Eminence Bishop Vasilije are represented Serbian Orthodox Church.
Celebration of St Sava`s Day at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology in Belgrade

February 2009 - 10:15Ancient Faith Radio (AFR), in partnership with St. Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary (SVS), is offering podcasts of the lectures from the international academic symposium titled "The Past and Future of Liturgical Theology: Celebrating the Legacy of Father Alexander Schmemann," held on the seminary campus January 30-31, 2009. Fr. Alexander served as the dean of SVS from 1962 until his death in 1983, and his seminal work in the field of liturgical theology is recognized throughout the globe.
Georgian Orthodox Church celebrate St. Nina’s Day
28. January 2009 - 11:25On January 27, the Georgian Orthodox Church marks St. Nino's Day. In all churches of Georgian Patriarchate will be heldspecial festive prayer. His Holiness Ilia the Second, Catholicos Patriarch of All Georgians, is delivering a religious service at Sioni Cathedral.
On January 26, Saint Nina's Cross was brought to the Dusk Prayer and put down at the center of the temple. This is the very cross with which the saint baptized the whole Georgia. The believers will have a chance to visit the cathedral in the evening of January 27 and worship the miraculous cross.
SVS Seminarians March for Life

January 2009 - 11:22Twenty-six St. Vladimir's seminarians, along with family members, seminary staff, and SVS Chancellor Archpriest Chad Hatfield, joined a large "Orthodox Christians for Life" contingent in the annual "March for Life" in Washington, D.C. on January 22, 2009. This year marks the 36th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the U.S. Supreme Court's landmark 1973 decision legalizing abortion, and the SVS delegation traveled to the nation's capital to show their compassionate and protective stance toward the unborn and to express their strong disagreement with the Supreme Court decision.
