The Church in the Changing World: Challenges and Perspectives

On November 23, with the blessings of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians; a three-day conference was held in the “Karegin I” educational center of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, entitled “The Church in the Changing World: Challenges and Perspectives”, organized by the partnership of the “Dialogue” NGO. The conference began with the Lord’s Prayer, following which His Eminence Archbishop Nathan Hovhannisyan, Director of the External Relations and Protocol Department of the Mother See, welcomed the participating clergy and laymen.

Cardinal Charles Bo of Myanmar new president of FABC

Myanmar’s first cardinal has been elected the next president of the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences (FABC).  

Cardinal Charles Maung Bo, Archbishop of Yangon was elected the new FABC president at the FABC Central Committee meeting on November 16.  He will assume office on January 1, 2019.

On November 21, 2018, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II met with His Excellency Crown Prince of Bahrain His Royal Highness Prince Salman Bin Hamad Al Khalifah, at the Crown Prince’s palace in Manama, Bahrain.

Pope appoints bishop in Ilagan, Philippines

Pope Francis on Wednesday appointed a bishop to the Diocese of Ilagan in the northern Philippines.  Bishop David William Valencia Antonio, the Auxiliary of Segovia is the new Bishop of Ilagan.  However, he will continue as Apostolic Administrator of San Jose in Mindoro, a task he was entrusted with in March 2018.

Pope Francis to visit Morocco in March

Pope Francis will make an Apostolic Journey to Morocco in early 2019, visiting the cities of Rabat and Casablanca. The Director of the Holy See Press Office, Greg Burke, announced on Tuesday that Pope Francis will visit Morocco from the 30th to the 31st of March 2019. During this two-day Apostolic Journey, he will visit the cities of Rabat and Casablanca.

His Holiness Mor Ignatius Aphrem II – (Patriarch on the Apostolic Throne of St.Peter in Antioch and All-East & Primate of the Universal Syriac Orthodox Church) inaugurated the Antioch Syrian University (ASU). The opening ceremony was held in the presence of His Excellency Dr. Atef Al-Naddaf, Minister of Higher Education in Syria, Christian Prelates, students and a large number of faithful at Maarat Saydnaya.
