SOYA in Sydney

Last weekend, a group of young Serbs from Melbourne arrived in Sydney. They were there as representatives of SOYA (Serbian Orthodox Youth Association), and were travelling in order to promote Boris Malagurski's documentary film 'Kosovo: Can You Imagine?'. An account of the screening itself will be available for perusal in the next issue of the Srpski Glas, whilst we will use this opportunity to tell you a little bit about some of the unofficial reasons for our visit to Sydney.

Serbian cathedral in Chicago hosts Sunday Of Orthodoxy celebration

On the evening of Sunday, February 21st, 2010, a Pan-Orthodox celebration of the Sunday of Orthodoxy was held in the Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral in Chicago, Illinois. Present at the service were Metropolitan Christopher of the Libertyville-Chicago, the host of the event, as well as Metropolitan Iakovos of the Greek Archdiocese, Archbishop Nikolai of the Romanian Archdiocese, Bishop Peter of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad, Bishops Sava and Demetrios of the Greek Archdiocese and Bishop Daniel of the Ukranian Orthodox Church. Hundreds of Orthodox faithful from the local churches gathered, along with about sixty priests and ten deacons.

Memorial service for Vozd Karadjordje and rebels in Orashac

After the liturgical celebration of the Presentation of the Lord, as a part of the celebration of the National Day of the Republic of Serbia, February 15 2010, His Grace Bishop Jovan of Shumadia served in Orashac a memorial service for Karadjordje and the rebels who gave their lives in the struggle for the freedom of the Serbian people.

The 29th Annual Opening of the Law Term for 2010

The Standing Conference of Canonical Orthodox Churches in Australia (SCCOCA) sponsored the 29th Annual Opening of the Law Term for 2010 with an Inter-Orthodox Prayer Service held at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Sydney on Thursday evening, 11 February 2010. In the presence of several hundred participants, clergy and lay, especially legal professionals from the Inter-Orthodox community, and notable guests from the judiciary headed by the Honourable Chief Justice James Jacob Spigelman AC and the Honourable Attorney General John Hatzistergos.

St. Sava's Day Academy in London

On Sunday, January 31, 2010, at the St. Sava church in London the Patron Saint's day of the church was formally celebrated. Most of the priests from the United Kingdom served with the head of the church, father Milun Kostic,  as well as the head of the church Lazarica from Krusevac, father Dragi Veskovac. He was a guest of the church of St. Sava this year, along with KUD October 14 from Krusevac upon the invitation of the head father Milun.

 

Bishop Jovan serves at St. Sava church at the Airport

His Grace Bishop Jovan of Shumadia on Monday February 1, 2010 on a day of St. Macaryous the Great, served the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy at the St. Sava church at the airport. Bishop of Shumadia served the Holy Liturgy with the priests who were at the church and the seminary rector of St. John Chrysostom Zoran Krstic.
