Monastery of St. Archdeacon Stephen in Slanci celebrated its Patron's Feast Day

On Sunday, August 15, 2010 in the monastery of St. Stephen the First martyr and Archdeacon in Slanci near Belgrade, the Patron's feast day was formally celebrated. His Grace Vicar Bishop Atanasije served the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy with the concelebration of priesthood of the regency of Vracar-Grocka.

After the participation in a celebration of the Patron's feast day of the monastery of Saint Archdeacon Stephen in Banjska, Minister of Internal Affairs and Vice President of the Government of Serbia Mr. Ivica Dacic visited the Gracanica Monastery where he was cordially welcomed by His Grace Vicar Bishop Teodosije of Lipljan.

Thousands of Orthodox Christians to attend liturgy at monastery in Turkey

Local officials say thousands of Orthodox Christians from Greece, Russia and Georgia will attend mass to be held at a historic monastery in Turkey for the first time since 1923. Turkish authorities have reopened the Byzantine-era stone monastery of Sumela near the Black Sea - built nearly 1,000 feet into the side of a mountain - for once-yearly worship. Patriarch Bartholomew I, the spiritual leader of the world's Orthodox Christians, will hold the first liturgy there on Sunday.

IOCC Responds to Historic Russian Heat Wave & Wildfires

Experiencing the worst heat wave in Russia since record-keeping began more than 130 years ago, the Russian people have been suffering from uninterrupted high temperatures for the past 50 days and deteriorating air quality as a result of more than 500 active fires burning nationwide. News agencies have reported that more than 50 people have died so far from the fires and an estimated 5,000 others have died as a result of the heat and poor air quality in Western Russia.

Russians continue to pray for rain while churches collect aid

The Russian Orthodox Church has continued to pray for relief from the heat and drought that has gripped Russia for two months, as one archbishop condemned some retailers for profiteering from the extreme weather conditions.
