Patriarch Irinej of Serbia talked with Dimitris Moshopoulos

Today at the Serbian Patriarchate in Belgrade, His Holiness Patriarch Irinej of Serbia received in an official visit Mr. Dimitris Moshopoulos, the special representative of the EU for for the issues of religious and cultural heritage of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Kosovo and Metohia. The meeting was attended by His Grace Bishop Irinej of Bachka, member of the Holy Synod, and Vicar Bishop Teodosije of Lipljan.

Celebration of Greek national holiday in Belgrade

His Grace Bishop Irinej of Bachka, in the presence of His Holiness Patriarch Irinej and His Grace Vicar Bishop Atanasije of Hvosno, served today in the Patriarchate chapel in Belgrade, on the feast day of Annunciation after the new calendar, thanksgiving on the occasion of the Greek national holiday - Liberation day from the Turkish servitude and the remembrance on the liberation uprisings from 1821. The Thanksigiving was attended by His Excellency Ambassador of Greece Mr. Dimostenis Stoilis and respected representatives of the diplomatic cord, the Association of the Serbian-Greek friendship and the Greek community in Serbia.

His Beatitude Theodoros II visited the Orthodox School "Agios Athanasios" of the Metropolis, in Tembisa, Johannesburg

On 23 March 2010 His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, accompanied by His Eminence Seraphim Metropolitan of Johannesburg and Pretoria and His Eminence George Metropolitan of Zimbabwe and Archimandrite Panteleimon Arathymos, Director of His Beatitude's Private Patriarchal Office, visited the Orthodox School "Agios Athanasios" of the Metropolis, in Tembisa, Johannesburg, where two hundred children from poor African families are being educated.

Memorial service for innocently suffered and defenders of the Fatherland in 1999 NATO bombing

His Holiness Patriarch Irinej of Serbia served today at the St. Marko Church in Belgrade a memorial service to the innocent victims and defenders of the Fatherland during the NATO bombing in 1999. Patriarch of Serbia served with the concelebration of Vicar Bishop Atanasije of Hvosno and the priesthood of the Archbishopric of Belgrade-Karlovac.

On the occasion of the day when the Serbian people is reminded of the victims of the NATO bombing of Serbia, in the presence of many faithful, Prof. Dr Bogoljub Sijakovic, Minister of Faith in the Government of Serbia, and His Excellency Aleksander Konuzin, Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Belgrade, His Holiness Patriarch of Serbia stressed that this sad and prayerfully remembrance of those who suffered on the soil of our Fatherland and those who fallen by defending their homes and sanctuaries.

Bishop Atanasije serves memorial service for victims of NATO bombing and post-war suffering in Kosovo and Metohia

In Gračanica today the 11 year anniversary of the beginning of the bombing of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia was marked with the consecration and placing of a cross brought from Herzegovina by monks from Tvrdoš Monastery, a memorial service for the victims and the lighting of candles in the spot where a monument is to be built to the victims of NATO bombing and the atrocities of the Albanian extremists in Kosovo and Metohija. Before the beginning of the memorial service, those present were reminded of the difficult days of bombing and suffering by air raid sirens.

Before some 1,000 people the memorial service about 1000 people served The Administrator of the Diocese of Raška-Prizren and Kosovo-Metohija, Bishop Atanasije, served the memorial service before some 1,000 people with the concelebration of Vicar Bishop Teodosije of Lipljan and the clergy of the Diocese of Raška and Prizren. Bishop Atanasije said that the Serbs had gone through the centuries with a cross on their hearts, none more so than the Serbs from Kosovo and Metohija. "That is why on this cross that has been placed here, sent by St. Sava's Herzegovina, it is written that the Serbs from Kosovo and Metohija lived and died for the Holy Cross and golden freedom, and today they are in heaven in bliss and for eternity - because God created man for eternity."
