Reminding of the fire in Chilandar monastery - March 4, 2004

On March 4, 2004 one hour after midnight Chilandar Monastery on the Mount Athos was caught by a catastrophic fire. There were no casualties, and the firefighters, monks and workers in the monastery managed to keep the fire under control. The fire, which spread by the rooftop, completely destroyed a part of the monastery complex from the heugomen's cell, through the hospitality rooms all the way to the Tower of Saint Sava. The Church of King Milutin, the treasury, archives and monastery library remained out of the reach of the fire.

Metropolitan Hilarion completes his visit to France

Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate's department for external church relations, took part on 2 March 2010 in the inauguration of the Holy Rus exhibition at the Louvre, which was opened by the Presidents of Russia and France. The idea to organize this exhibition was supported by the late Patriarch Alexy II in 2008 during a visit of Louvre Director Henri Loyrette to Moscow.

Religious Freedom Mission to the European Union in support of Ecumenical Patriarchate

With the blessings of His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America, Exarch of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, a delegation from the Order of St. Andrew, led by Archon Ambassador George L. Argyros and National Commander Anthony J. Limberakis, MD, participated in a Religious Freedom Mission to the European Union in pursuit of human rights and religious freedom for the Ecumenical Patriarchate from January 26-February 7, 2010. The delegation traveled to Madrid, Spain, which currently holds the EU presidency; Brussels, Belgium, the headquarters of the EU and ended in Athens, Greece where they joined His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. They were guided by His Eminence Metropolitan Emmanuel of France, Director of the Liaison Office of the Ecumenical Patriarchate to the European Union. Together with Archons Argyros and Limberakis, the delegation also included Archon Christopher Stratakis, Legal Counselor; Fr. Alex Karloutsos, Archon Spiritual Advisor; and Mr. Robert Lapsely, former assistant Secretary of State for California.

Divine Liturgy in St. Andrew Fool-For-Christ Serbian Orthodox Church in Anderson

His Grace, Bishop Maxim together with the Clergy and the faithful of the St. Andrew Church and neighboring parishes, gathered together on Sunday, February 28, 2010 to celebrate the Divine Liturgy. On this day His Grace ordained the servant of God, Monk Andrew from the St. Herman's Monastery in Platina, California, to the Holy Deaconate.

The SOC participates in a selection of cyrillic internet domain of Serbia

On the proposal of The Serbian National Register of Internet Domain Names (RNIDS) that, regarding the activities of determining the Cyrillic domain that our country will use on the Internet network,  except representatives of other important and relevant institutions of our society, the Serbian Orthodox Church also participates, the Holy Synod of Bishops of the SOC for representatives in the working group for the selection of Serbian Cyrillic Internet domain delegated deacon Oliver Subotic, theologian and information scientist,  the head of the Center for the study and use of modern technologies
