Bishop Jerome celebrates St. Sava at Serbian Church in Elizabeth, New Jersey

On Wednesday, January 27, on the Serbian feast of the holy hierarch St. Sava, His Grace Jerome, Bishop of Manhattan (Russian Church Abroad), celebrated the Divine Liturgy in St. George Serbian Church in Elizabeth, NJ. Shortly before the greeting of Vladyka, the wonder-working Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God arrived at the church, accompanied by diocesan secretary Archpriest Serge Lukianov. A special and unexpected joy occurred in church: the genuine unity in Holy Orthodoxy of the Russian and Serbian peoples was tangible when, instead of the parish choir, the entire church sang the Divine Liturgy in Slavonic and Serbian.

Announcement before the beginning of Great Lent

As the Serbian Orthodox Church in 2010 will prayerfully remember St. Symeon the God-Receiver on Tuesday of the first week of the Great Fast we inform the faithful who will be celebrating their Krsna Slava on that day that they celebrate it instead on Saturday, February 13, 2010, on Cheesefare Saturday.

According to the Great Typicon, chapter 42, we remind all faithful that the Holy Three Hierarchs will be celebrated on Thursday, February 11, instead of Friday, expect in the event that the church is dedicated to this feast, then it is celebrated on the day of the feast.

According to the Great Typicon, chapter 44, the feast of the Presentation of the Lord in the Temple will be served on Sunday, February 14, since the actual feast falls on the first day of the Great Fast.

Patriarch Irinej served on Memorial Saturday at Rakovica monastery

His Holiness Patriarch Irinej of Serbia served the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy on a feast day of Venerable Xenia of Rome - Memorial Saturday at the Rakovica monastery in Belgrade.

His Holiness served with the concelebration of hierarchal head  Branko Mitrovic, presbyter Aleksandar Milutinovic and protodeacon Stevan Rapajic.

Turkish citizens hold demonstration outside Phanar in support of the Ecumenical Patriarchate

A demonstration in support of minorities was organized on Saturday, January 9, outside the compound of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Istanbul. The event was organized by a coalition of liberal and peacemaker organizations named '70 Million Steps Against Coups'. Demonstrators shouted slogans and held banners reading: 'No one should be able to touch the Patriarchate and Patriarch Bartholomew'; 'Long live the brotherhood of peoples'; 'Freedom'; 'Dissolve Ergenekon'; in Greek: 'All peoples are brothers and sisters'; and in Turkish: 'Bring coup instigators and ones planning "Klovos" to Justice.'

Bishops’ Conference approves of the work of Department for External Church Relations

The Bishops' Conference took place in the Hall of Church Councils at the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour on 2 February 2010. Taking part in it were hierarchs of the Russian Orthodox Church who have arrived in Moscow to celebrate the anniversary of the enthronement of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia. His Holiness presented a report that was following by a discussion of issues took up by the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church. Resolutions on various aspects of church life were adopted.
