On August 23, 2019, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II met His Excellency Mr. Viktor Orban, Prime Minister of Hungary, in Fatima – Portugal. The meeting was also attended by their Beatitudes Cardinal Mar Bechara Boutros Al-Rai, Maronite Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, and Mor Ignatius Youssef III Younan, Syriac Catholic Patriarch of Antioch.

Feast of Saint Cosmas of Aitolia at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens

The memory of the New-Hieromartyr Cosmas of Aitolia, Equal of the Apostles, was celebrated solemnly in the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens. The Divine Liturgy was celebrated in the morning. Dozens of faithful went to the cathedral to attend the liturgy. The faithful could pay their respects to the relics of Saint Cosmas, which are kept in the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens given by Archbishop Anastasios of Tirana and All Albania.

Mayor of Athens takes the oath during ceremony officiated by Archbishop of Athens

Plato’s Academy hosted the ceremony during which the new Athens mayor, Kostas Bakoyiannis, took the oath of office.This is the first taking of the oath of a mayor of Athens outside the city hall, and crowds of people gathered to attend the ceremony. Mr. Bakoyannis made this decision, as he wanted to show, literally and symbolically, that from the first moment of his duties he would fight the daily life of the city, not only in the center, but also in the 129 neighborhoods of the seven Municipalities of Athens.

Polyarchieratic Divine Liturgy on the name day of the Archbishop of Crete

On Friday, August 23, 2019, feast day of Hieromartyr Irenaeus, Bishop of Lyons, and the Apodosis of the Dormition, Archbishop Irenaeus of Crete presided over the Divine Liturgy in the Agios Minas Cathedral in Heraklion.

Metropolitans Andreas of Arkalochori, Kastelli and Viannos, Gerasimos of Petra and Hersonissos, Kyrillos of Hierapytna and Siteia, and Bishop Paisios of Apameia participated in the Divine Liturgy while Metropolitans Amfilochios of Kissamos and Selino and Damaskinos of Kydonia and Apokoronas were prayerfully attending in the altar.
